Supervisor Sterile Processing

Assists in the preparation of performance appraisals, evaluates employee performance, and provides feedback to employees to ensure adequate communication and understanding within the department. The S.P.D. Supervisor, who reports to the S.P.D. Manager, oversees the S.P.D. Technicians I and II and an Inventory Control Clerk, participates in continuous quality improvement programs and utilizes all equipment, supplies, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner. The Supervisor provides quality training and orientation for assigned employees, strives to promote personal performance quality by participating in staff educational programs, and monitors work quality and quantity in an effort to promote departmental efficiency. 

1.   Evaluation and Analysis
a.   Assists the Director in the preparation of performance appraisals, evaluates the performance of selected employees, and provides feedback to employees in order to ensure adequate communication and understanding and the efficient provision of high quality health care services.

2.   Collaboration and Partnership
a.   Fosters a team environment involving all departmental personnel to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the department.

3.   Quality
a.   Provides quality training and orientation for assigned employees, informs co-workers of relevant departmental policies and procedures, allocates tasks to co-workers as needed, and implements and monitors departmental work schedules and duty assignments.
b.   Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner in order to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high quality health care services.
c.   Observes and adheres to quality standards established by the department. Participates in continuous quality improvement programs in order to foster the provision of quality health care services by the department and hospital and ensures that all services are provided with compassion, understanding, and respect for others.
d.   Strives to promote the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance through participation in staff educational programs, approved continuing education courses, and specialized skill training programs.

4.   Other Duties As Assigned
a.   Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
 

Experience
3 years working in Sterile Processing or Surgery. Bachelor's degree will substitute for 2 years' SPD experience.

High school or equivalent

Training
Completion of instrument checklist I and II

Licensure
Current Sterile Processing Technician certification (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through CBSPD or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA). Must obtain within one year of employment as Supervisor of SPD
