Job Description - Supervisor (USARA), Workforce Development and Refugee Services Programs

Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA’s comprehensive Workforce Development and Refugee Services Programs: Since our founding CAMBA has connected over 25,000 New Yorkers to full time jobs. Our workforce development initiatives grew out of our commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive New York City. Driven by racial and economic equality, we provide opportunities for the most economically and socially vulnerable to thrive.  We work with a vast diversity of job seekers, and specialize in assisting those with special barriers to employment including refugees, political asylees, immigrant professionals, young adults, victims of human trafficking and others, from over fifty countries of origin, who are striving to connect to career paths.

Position: Supervisor (USARA)
Reports To: Program Manager
Location: 2244 Church Avenue, 4th Floor Brooklyn, NY 11226

What The Supervisor (USARA) Does:
  • Supervise the assigned staff within the Workforce Development Department.
  • Plan and organize program activities to maximize program contract's goals and performance targets.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, direct reporting staff, peers, supervisors, and funders.
  • Conduct biweekly one-on-one meetings with staff and provide guidance on any client issues that arise.
  • Track caseload and goals of direct staff through biweekly supervision, reviewing client trackers, case files, and weekly reports for accuracy and timely completion.
  • Monitor complex cases by advising case managers, coordinating case conferences, and keeping supervisors informed as necessary.
  • Maintain a reduced caseload in order to meet program goals.
  • Motivate, coach, and counsel direct reporting staff to excel individually and as a team.
  • Work with direct reporting staff to improve work performance through training and other appropriate mechanisms.
  • Administer constructive discipline to direct reporting staff as required.
  • Manage own time effectively and coordinate program activities to maximize time of direct reporting staff.
  • Monitor direct staff progress towards their goals on a weekly basis.
  • Review all documentation related to clients' and program’s progress for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
  • Conduct quality review of information entered into the data system, and compare it to case file data and services delivered to ensure accurate reporting and claims validation.
  • Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.
  • Provide all required information for biweekly reports to CAMBA management and/or to funders.
  • Pre-screen clients for eligibility and assign cases as needed.
  • Prepare performance appraisals for direct reporting staff as needed.
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate social/peer support or outreach events as needed.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in a related field.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to converse with clients in a language other than English (Haitian/Creole, French, Spanish, Russian, etc.) preferred.

Compensation: $62,000-$64,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.


Status: Full-time (35 hours per week) (Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM, occasional nights and weekends as needed)
