Job Description - Supportive Programs Family Coach



Full-time


Description

The Family Coach works directly with individuals and families using a relationship-based, strengths-focused approach to promote stability, connection, and access to opportunities. Family Coaches partner with families to identify goals, address barriers, and support progress toward long-term wellbeing and self-sufficiency.

This role emphasizes trust-building, supportive coaching conversations, and proactive engagement within program spaces and the broader community. Family Coaches help families navigate systems and resources, strengthen decision-making skills, and connect to services aligned with their priorities and circumstances.

The Action Center is creating a community center in a repurposed elementary school, uniting health and support services from various organizations. This coordinated system aims to empower the community to lead healthier, more stable lives. The new space is expected to open in 2027.


Requirements

  

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Family Engagement & Outreach

  • Proactively engage individuals and families in internal program spaces, including grocery, clothing market, workshops, lobby, and community events) Build welcoming and inclusive environments that encourage participation in supportive services.
  • Conduct outreach both within organizational programs and throughout the community to increase awareness of and participation in supportive services. 
  • Participate in community events, resource fairs, and workshops, including occasional evenings and Saturdays

Relationship Building

  • Initiate relationship-based conversations that prioritize trust, mutual understanding, and emotional connection over transactional goals.
  • Help families identify strengths, build confidence in decision-making, and strengthen self-advocacy skills. 
  • Encourage accountability and sustained engagement in individualized plans and supportive services.

 Goal Planning & Navigation Support

  • Administer the Colorado Family Support Assessment 2.0 (CFSA 2.0), an evidence-based tool to assess family strengths and monitor progress toward self-reliance. 
  • Collaborate with families to create individualized action plans that outline clear goals, action steps, priorities, and timelines.
  • Conduct ongoing follow-ups to review progress, address barriers, celebrate successes, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Assist families in navigating systems, accessing resources, organizing priorities, and strengthening financial and administrative skills. 

Documentation & Program Support 

  • Maintain accurate participant records, coaching notes, and progress plans in agency databases. 
  • Support program evaluation and reporting needs. 

Collaboration & Community Presence

  • Support workshops or group learning opportunities related to financial well-being, life skills, or family stability.
  • Represent the program in partner meetings or community settings when appropriate. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues, schools, service providers, and community organizations to strengthen coordinated support systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, finance, and community 
  • development, or related field preferred (relevant experience may substitute). 
  • Demonstrated expertise in a person-centered approach, prioritizing individual needs and values of those we serve to provide compassionate support. 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working directly with families or adults in coaching, education, workforce, or support roles. 
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to engage individuals in community-based settings.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based practices. 
  • Excellent organizational documentation and time management skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Training in Motivational Interviewing, coaching methodologies, or trauma-informed practices. 
  • Experience facilitating workshops or group learning spaces. 
  • Knowledge of community resources and economic opportunity pathways. 
  • Experience working with families experiencing financial hardship. 
  •  Proficiency with the Colorado Family Support Assessment (CFSA 2.0) or a similar evidence-based family stability and protective factors assessment tool.

Physical Demands 

The work involves routine physical activity associated with an office environment, and the position may occasionally assist with the grocery and clothing bank. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. 

Work Environment and Schedule 

The work involves normal physical activity associated with an office environment. The schedule will be regular business hours with some weekend and evening hours as necessary to meet job requirements. 

May attend outside meetings with community members, partners, and other resource organizations, as well as partner in elementary school locations.
