Surgery Manager – RN

Reports To: Director of Surgical Services
Salary: $100,000–$120,000 (Negotiable)

The Opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced Surgery Manager – RN to provide operational and clinical leadership across Surgical Services for an acute care hospital in Northwest Alabama.

This is a senior-level management opportunity for a strong perioperative nursing leader who can oversee multiple departments, develop staff, manage resources, collaborate effectively with surgeons and hospital leadership, and maintain high standards for patient care, safety, and operational performance.

The Surgery Manager will oversee the Operating Room, Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Central Sterile Processing, Ambulatory Services, and Endoscopy departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day Surgical Services operations and ensure high-quality patient care.


• Provide leadership across the OR, PAT, Central Sterile Processing, Ambulatory Services, and Endoscopy.


• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate nurses, surgical technologists, and other department staff.


• Establish departmental objectives and ensure alignment with hospital policies and organizational goals.


• Manage department budgets, staffing resources, supplies, and equipment.


• Lead performance improvement, quality, safety, and operational problem-solving initiatives.


• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing leadership, hospital executives, and other departments.


• Manage employee performance, including evaluations, coaching, promotions, disciplinary actions, and other personnel matters.


• Support staff orientation, clinical education, competency assessment, and professional development.


• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and confidentiality requirements.


• Step into a staff RN capacity when necessary to support Surgical Services operations.

Required Qualifications

• Current Alabama RN license, compact state license, or ability to obtain appropriate Alabama licensure.


• Current BLS certification.


• ACLS and/or PALS certification as applicable to assigned clinical responsibilities.


• Minimum 5 years of professional experience demonstrating management and leadership skills.


• Minimum 2–3 years of surgical/perioperative experience.


• Strong knowledge of Surgical Services operations and clinical workflow.


• Demonstrated ability to lead staff, manage competing priorities, and make independent operational decisions.


• Ability to relocate to Northwest Alabama within 30 days if not already in the region.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be an experienced perioperative RN leader who understands both the clinical and operational sides of Surgical Services. They should be comfortable managing multiple departments, developing teams, working closely with physicians, addressing performance issues, and balancing quality outcomes with staffing, budgets, and daily operational demands.

This role is particularly well suited for an established OR Manager, Surgical Services Manager, Perioperative Manager, or experienced surgical nursing leader ready to take broader responsibility across multiple perioperative departments.
