Summary

The Survey Party Chief is responsible for the construction layout for roadway, structures (bridges, wall, culverts, etc.), utilities, and any other related layout for the project.

Essential Functions

• Determine methods and procedures for the recovery of existing survey control and establishing secondary survey control as needed.

• Operate and maintain all survey equipment including manual and robotic total stations, levels, GPS, and any other survey equipment.

• Perform layout work competently and accurately as specified.

• Familiar with Topcon/Leica/Trimble hardware and software or willingness to learn.

• Mathematical skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Possess an understanding of algebra and geometry.

Supervisory Requirements

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment                                                                                                          

This is field based role. Employee will be working on heavy civil and highway construction sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands                                                                                                                     

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs physical labor under adverse field conditions.

The employee lifts, pushes, pull’s or carries objects and uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. This position will occasionally require long hours and weekend work. 

Travel                                                                                                                      

The role requires some travel.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma.

• 2-4 years’ experience in the surveying industry.

• Field based project execution experience.

• 1 year minimum of construction layout.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Construction industry experience preferred.

• Takes full ownership of assigned projects and can work independently.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license before employment
