Job Description - Syringe Pick Up & Outreach Navigator

Position Summary:
The Syringe Pick Up & Outreach Navigator is responsible for supporting the Prevention Team. The navigator works with Bangor Public Health/ City of Bangor (COB) to receive emails, calls and other reports of syringes and syringe waste in the community and are responsible for removing the waste in a safe and timely manner.
Position Details:
This is a Part Time position.
This starting hourly rate for this position is $20.33 an hour. Shift and experience may increase starting pay.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops content in collaboration with the Prevention team and COB to support syringe pick up and outreach
Create clean-up kits to distribute to Bangor residents and businesses
Document all emails, calls and reports in Excel and submit report monthly
Respond to calls within 24 hours (during business hours)
Empty public syringe boxes around Bangor and communicate any concerns with manager & COB
Support outreach engagements, activities, and opportunities including community clean- up’s, testing, and educational prevention programming
Maintains training and certifications to support program needs, including CTR (Counseling, Testing, Referral) training through ME CDC to support HIV/HCV testing and linkage to care
Prepares resources and educational resources on prevention information, opioid overdose prevention, recovery supports and connections, and more in collaboration with Prevention team and manager to support identified programmatic needs.
Attends and participates in individual and team check in’s, staff meetings, and meetings as required from grantors or program support
Collaboration with community and community partners to support programs and services
Other duties, as assigned by Prevention Manager, Director of Sage Way and/or Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness Leadership
Education and Experience Required:
Education and professional experience in substance use, prevention, and/or harm reduction or, psychology, social work, public health, and/or mental health-related fields is desired; equivalent to a minimum of 2 years.
Has a strong understanding of Harm Reduction principles and infectious disease prevention.
Lived experience is desired.
Training in trauma informed care, crisis prevention, de-escalation, and prevention desired.
Must be willing to be certified in HIV / HCV screening / testing through ME CDC.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
Requires sitting, standing, reaching, crouching, lifting and walking long distances carrying items.
Requires travel, most often throughout Bangor area, but also occasional pre-approved travel across Wabanaki territory.
Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License, a legal & insured vehicle, and can be insured under organization’s auto insurance policy.
Must have knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Experience using Canva desired.

Ability to support multiple tasks and projects.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Have strong cultural competency skills / ability to meet people where they are/trauma- informed.
Must pass criminal background check.
