At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a Systems Administrator, a typical day will include the following duties:
JOB DESCRIPTION
The System Administrator will manage and maintain enterprise infrastructure systems including storage, virtualization, and cloud environments. This position requires hands-on technical expertise in NetApp and VMWare platforms, combined with automation and scripting capabilities to support patching, configuration management, and system accreditation processes. The administrator must be proficient in managing complex infrastructure environments while implementing automation solutions to enhance operational efficiency and security compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer and maintain NetApp storage systems to ensure optimal performance and availability
Manage VMWare virtualization infrastructure including vSphere/ESXi environments
Execute hardware patching procedures across enterprise systems to maintain security and stability
Develop and maintain Ansible scripts for configuration management and automation workflows
Create and optimize Bash scripts for system administration tasks and operational efficiency
Implement automation solutions for routine patching and maintenance of operating systems
Support cloud infrastructure patching with automated processes and tools
Manage PKI infrastructure and x509 certificate lifecycle across enterprise systems
Administer LDAP directory services and authentication mechanisms
Support system accreditation processes including documentation and compliance validation
Monitor system performance and proactively address potential issues before they impact operations
Coordinate and execute planned maintenance windows with minimal disruption to services
Document system configuration, procedures, changes, and troubleshooting steps
Operate as a DTO (Data Transfer Officer)
Work closely with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure solutions with business objectives
Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to team members
Support incident response and root cause analysis for infrastructure-related issues
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
At least three (3) years of current experience administering complex infrastructure systems including storage, virtualization, and cloud platforms
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Experience implementing automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention
Demonstrated experience managing NetApp storage systems in enterprise environments
