Company Description

The Economic Opportunity Commission is the designated anti-poverty agency in Nassau County; an innovative Community Action Agency devoted to facilitating and strengthening basic social relationships between individuals families, and social organizations

For over 50 years, the EOC of Nassau County Inc., has provided programs and services to low-income Nassau County residents.  During the past year, approximately 41,000 unduplicated low-income children, youth, individuals, and families accessed EOC Programs and services.  As a Community Action Agency, the EOC of Nassau County, Inc., is a direct support for the County's residents who live at or below the federal poverty level. This includes those who are recognized as "working poor". 

Job Description

·         Working with children and parents to accomplish the Head Start goals.

  • Supporting the children in all areas of physical, social emotional and intelligent needs and communicate effectively with children within this content.
  • Planning and writing the classroom weekly lesson plans that concentrate on the group and individual needs of the children involved.
  • Establish the proper physical and social setting for children in accordance with their needs and development.
  • Incorporating the Teacher Aide/Assistant’s related suggestions when preparing the weekly lessons plans.
  • Guide and supervise the Teacher Aide/Assistant in their role in the program and assist them in performing their specific duties that support the teaching activities.
  • Working effectively with parents in interpreting the process and developmental growth of individual children and assist parent in understanding development on individually communicated and continuing basis.
  • Communicating constructively with parents and other staff in an effort towards constant improvement and upgrading to the program.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings to discuss needs of children.
  • Related learning experience to the Head Start Performance Standards when planning for young children.
  • Cooperating with all staff personnel in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the children.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the CEO/Executive Director or Senior Management and all program activities as it relates to the mission of the Agency.
  • In accordance with the Head Start Performance standards 1302.91, is willing to
  • Participate and benefit from Intensive Practice Based Coaching to enhance and strengthen Professional Development and Teaching Practices in the classroom setting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be vaccinated.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Children Education with State Certification (Preferred).  Minimum of one-year experience in teaching young children in an accredited/license Early Childhood Program.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 12 ECE credits.
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education with two years’ relevant experiences in an accredited/license Early Childhood Program.
  • Children Development Associate Credential with three relevant experiences in a Head Start Program and Program Director recommendation and evaluation of performance.
