Summary:
Plans and implements and researches effective instructional practices that maximize student learning; develops instructional plans/units that incorporate the national mission priorities of literacy, transition, and family involvement; collaborates with other educators on teams/departments to provide an effective instructional program; documents and monitors student progress; communicates with families regarding student progress; maintains professional growth; and is accountable for student achievement and safety, and engages in action research for continuous improvement of instruction.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
SPECIFICATIONS:
MSSD Science Department—requires a Master’s degree in Deaf Education or the Science and/or STEAM Education content area (if the Master’s degree is in Deaf Education, the Bachelor’s degree must be in the Science and/or STEAM Education content area or the candidate must present proof of state certification in the Science content area).
Teaching Fellow—Requires bachelor’s degree in the Science and/or STEAM Education content, deaf education or education, have minimal teaching experience, be enrolled or eligible to enroll in a graduate program in the content area, Deaf Education or Education at any greater Washington D.C. area university or college that is accredited.
Teaching out of the Classroom (TOC)—This program is for eligible Clerc Center employees who do not meet the requirements for teaching fellows. This is a "pre-teaching fellow" position, available for a limited time, during which eligible applicants are required to obtain the necessary degree to qualify for promotion as a teaching fellow or teacher.
To be eligible for the TOC opportunity:
1. Have a Bachelor's Degree in any content area
2. A letter of endorsement from the current supervisor
3. Meet the minimum number of years of continuous employment at the Clerc Center as outlined below:
ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE:
• Knowledge and understanding of child development and/or adolescent needs
• Ability to provide/implement appropriate instructional activities for secondary school students
• Ability to communicate in American Sign Language

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
• All employees hired must undergo a background investigation if selected for the job and must be cleared before starting first day on the job. Reports from Background Check and Gallaudet Conduct & Security Office must be in a good standing.
• Compensation: According to Teacher pay schedule.
• Hours: Full Day – 8:15am – 3:45pm

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Any vacant position that will be filled is dependent upon resignations received and funding available. If you get the job offer, we will require official transcripts before the final hiring process is being finalized and approved.
