Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable, technically skilled Telecom Technician to join our growing team. This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications, voice, network, and low-voltage systems at customer locations.
The ideal candidate enjoys working independently, solving technical problems, interacting with customers, and taking ownership of a job from installation through completion. We are looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and delivering an excellent customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot business telecommunications systems.
Install and service VoIP phones, phone systems, network equipment, and related communications hardware.
Run, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Cat5e, Cat6, and other low-voltage cabling.
Install and maintain network racks, patch panels, switches, routers, and related equipment.
Diagnose voice, data, connectivity, call-quality, and equipment issues.
Program and configure phones, extensions, voicemail, call routing, auto attendants, and other telecommunications features.
Perform new system installations, equipment upgrades, moves, adds, and changes.
Test completed installations to ensure proper system operation and reliability.
Work with customers and internal support teams to resolve technical issues efficiently.
Clearly explain system operation and basic troubleshooting procedures to customers.
Maintain accurate service records, installation documentation, equipment information, and job notes.
Properly maintain company tools, test equipment, inventory, and assigned vehicle.
Follow company safety procedures and applicable low-voltage installation standards.
Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas at customer locations.
Represent the company professionally while working at customer sites.
Participate in manufacturer and company-provided technical training as needed.
Qualifications
Previous experience in telecommunications, low-voltage installation, structured cabling, networking, electronics, or a related technical field is preferred.
Working knowledge of VoIP technology, IP networking, switches, routers, and structured cabling is strongly preferred.
Ability to terminate and test Ethernet cabling.
Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting abilities.
Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, DHCP, VLANs, and network connectivity is a plus.
Ability to read installation diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
Professional communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and telecommunications platforms.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, industry certifications, or related training are a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires working in a variety of commercial environments and may include:
Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing throughout the workday.
Working from ladders when necessary.
Running cable above ceilings and through telecommunications spaces.
Using hand tools, power tools, cable testers, and other installation equipment.
Occasionally working in tight or confined areas associated with telecommunications and network installations.
