DescriptionThe ETSU Post Office invites applications for a part-time temporary clerical mail center worker.
Mail Worker responsibilities include:
Mail Processing and Delivery
- Assists the operation of the mail center activities: preparation and processing automated bulk mail, campus and US mail delivery and collections, international mailings, overnight express mailing, money orders, shipping and preparations of packages, and billing transmittal slips authorizations for mail preparation services.
- Properly operate the letter mail metering machines and monitor that the appropriate postage rates are applied according to the type of outgoing mail being processed.
- Properly process all outgoing packages and understand how to ensure the maximum USPS discounts are applied on all packages that are required to have the intelligent Mail Package Barcode (IMPB).
- Properly use the PO Box Manager System for opening, closing and purging of student PO Boxes.
- Edit box holder information and setting up forwards in the system.
- Properly operate the Smart Lockers, Smart Mail Boxes, Smart Department Lockers, and Asset Manager with the ability to scan and load incoming packages, add users, edit user profiles, troubleshoot and reboot system when necessary.
- Operate the current Package Tracking System by entering incoming departmental packages, delivery of packages through this system as well as the searching of packages, reporting, editing, adding of new users and various other operations.
- Serves as an information resource for university personnel regarding effective methods and requirements of making such as comparable services, costs, and delivery fees.
Postal Retail Services
- Operate the Postal Point of Sale system including the integrated electronic scale, postage printer, Dymo label printer and label writer.
- Perform transactions as well as make corrections, edit pricing, add users, add products, run reports and perform daily cash reconciliations.
- Properly process all outgoing types of mail in compliance with USPS rules and regulations for domestic and international postal services.
- Process transactions using the credit card reader, ID Bucs and cash register.
- Sell and cash USPS money orders.
Printing
- Designs and generates business reply and courtesy envelopes.
- Understands postage charges and monitors the USPS mailing permits and accounts for non-profit, presort first class, postage due, and business reply mail.
- Performs the basic functions of printing using the various printers such as the wide format printer, envelope printers, flat bed printer and addressing printer.
- Perform the basic functions of mailing equipment such as the folder/insertor, laminator, tabber and cutter.
- Maintains HIPAA certification to ensure proper procedures are followed when processing mailing for medical departments on campus.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma and two (2) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Complete training and certification for USPS Bank Secrecy Act and USPS Hazmat Training for mailing.
