Preamble

Boston College High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent school serving young men across grades 7-12 from various communities across Massachusetts. ROLE PURPOSE

Boston College High School seeks a full-time Catholic Theology teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year, beginning in August 2026.

The ideal candidate will inspire faith and learning in young people through excellent classroom instruction, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to the Catholic, Jesuit mission of the school. This teacher will join a collaborative department committed to helping students encounter the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition, develop habits of reflection and discernment, engage questions of meaning and justice, and grow as persons for and with others.

We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and early-career educators who bring education and/or theology preparation, a desire to grow in the craft of teaching, and enthusiasm for accompanying students at a formative stage of their academic, personal, and spiritual development.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES

  • Teach a full-time course load, likely five classes
  • Teach Theology courses with possible teaching assignments across grades 7–12.
  • Teach courses that may include, but are not limited to, Catholic faith and identity, Scripture, Sacraments, Catholic Ethics, Social Justice, World Religions, Church History, and Ignatian identity. (details in the course catalog)
  • Design engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons for young adolescents that invite curiosity, reflection, critical thinking, and meaningful connection between faith and lived experience.
  • Create a classroom environment marked by structure, warmth, belonging, respectful dialogue, and high expectations.
  • Use varied instructional and assessment practices to support diverse learners, including students with different learning needs, backgrounds, and levels of religious experience.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, assessment, student support, and the ongoing development of the Theology program.
  • Use educational technology and learning management systems, including Canvas, to support student learning and communication.
  • Maintain high standards for student growth, academic integrity, classroom culture, and respectful dialogue.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Serve as an advisor or mentor to students.
  • Participate in retreats, liturgies, service opportunities, and other mission-centered programs.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school through clubs, athletics, theater, campus ministry, student activities, or other co-curricular involvement.
  • Attend department, faculty, and professional development meetings.
  • Fulfill proctoring and other faculty responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Commitment to the Catholic, Jesuit mission of Boston College High School.
  • Formal theological training; a degree in Theology, Divinity, Religious Education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Interest in teaching middle and high school students; experience with young people through teaching, mentoring, coaching, retreats, youth ministry, or adolescent formation
  • Collaborative spirit and openness to feedback, mentorship, and professional growth.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and the dignity of every student.
  • Familiarity with Catholic social teaching, Ignatian spirituality, Scripture, ethics, and contemporary questions facing young people.
  • Desire to contribute to school life beyond the classroom
  • Practicing Catholic.

Salary: Commensurate with academic attainment and years of applicable teaching experience: $57,000–$118,000 annually
