Position Summary

The Family Therapist provides behavioral health assessment, psychotherapy, treatment planning, family involvement, crisis support, and clinical coordination for clients participating in ANASAZI Foundation’s Outdoor Behavioral Health Care Program.

Working under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Family Therapist collaborates with clients, parents/caregivers, Field Operations, Nursing, Admissions, and other appropriate personnel to support individualized treatment goals and continuity of care.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct behavioral health assessments and provide individual, family, and other psychotherapy services within professional scope of practice.


• Develop, implement, review, and document individualized treatment plans based on assessed client needs.


• Maintain regular therapeutic contact with assigned clients and appropriate communication with parents/caregivers.


• Conduct field visits and provide clinical services in ANASAZI’s outdoor environment as required.


• Monitor client progress, behavioral health needs, risk factors, treatment response, and readiness for transition or discharge.


• Provide crisis assessment, intervention, safety planning, and appropriate escalation when clinically indicated.


• Coordinate clinically appropriate family involvement in treatment and help families prepare for reunification and transition following discharge.


• Collaborate with Field Operations, Nursing, Admissions, Alumni Services, and other personnel regarding client needs while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.


• Provide clinical consultation and guidance to appropriate program staff regarding assigned clients and treatment goals.


• Complete timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge documentation, and other required records.


• Participate in clinical staffing, case consultation, quality improvement, risk management, training, and other required clinical activities.


• Coordinate discharge and aftercare recommendations with clients, families, the Clinical Director, and appropriate outside providers.


• Maintain professional ethics, client rights, confidentiality, boundaries, and mandatory-reporting requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Master’s degree or higher in social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or another behavioral health discipline qualifying the individual for required professional licensure.

Experience

• Professional behavioral health/clinical experience working with clients and families required.


• Experience with adolescents, family systems, behavioral health treatment, residential programs, crisis intervention, or Outdoor Behavioral Health Care Programs preferred.

Licensure / Certifications

• Current Arizona professional license in good standing as a Behavioral Health Professional appropriate to the services assigned.


• Independent licensure preferred; independently licensed status required when duties or level of supervision require it.


• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card as required by applicable law and ANASAZI policy.


• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving eligibility when assigned field or program travel.


• CPR/First Aid or other safety certification as required by ANASAZI policy or assigned responsibilities.

ANASAZI will verify required education, experience, professional licensure, credentials, qualifications, and competencies in accordance with applicable requirements.

Competency will be assessed and documented according to ANASAZI policy and applicable regulatory, professional, licensing, and accreditation requirements.

Physical & Environmental Essential Functions

This position requires office-based clinical work and regular travel to remote outdoor field locations. Field participation may require walking or hiking over uneven terrain, exposure to varying weather and elevation, and carrying necessary personal or clinical supplies.

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation, consistent with applicable law.

Working Conditions & Schedule

Work includes office-based clinical services and regular participation in ANASAZI’s outdoor field environment. Evening, weekend, emergency, or after-hours availability may occasionally be required based on client and program needs.

The position involves working with clients and families experiencing behavioral health concerns, emotional distress, crises, and other sensitive circumstances.

Compliance & Professional Expectations

The Family Therapist must maintain required professional licensure and provide services only within authorized professional scope, demonstrated competency, and applicable supervision requirements.

The position must comply with applicable federal and Arizona laws and regulations, AZDHS requirements, applicable Joint Commission standards, professional licensing and ethical requirements, HIPAA and confidentiality requirements, client rights, mandatory-reporting requirements, and ANASAZI policies.

When services involve a parent/caregiver located outside Arizona, the therapist must follow applicable professional practice and jurisdictional requirements. Activities that constitute psychotherapy or other regulated behavioral health services must not be represented as non-clinical “coaching” to avoid applicable professional requirements.
