JOB DESCRIPTION: Tool & Die Maker 

Monday-Friday

First Shift

 ESSENTIAL DUITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build, repair, maintain, and modify dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and other production tooling according to drawings, specifications, and production requirements.


• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dies and tooling to ensure safe and reliable operation.


• Diagnose die and tooling problems and determine appropriate repairs or adjustments.


• Disassemble, inspect, repair, fit, and reassemble dies and tooling.


• Set up and operate manual machine tools such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and related equipment.


• Operate CNC and/or EDM equipment when required by the facility.


• Perform precision grinding, machining, fitting, polishing, and bench work.


• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, GD&T specifications, and technical documentation.


• Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, gauge blocks, and other inspection tools.


• Verify completed work meets dimensional and quality specifications.


• Troubleshoot tooling problems during production and respond to equipment or die-related downtime.


• Perform die change, tryout, adjustment, and troubleshooting activities as required.


• Identify recurring tooling problems and recommend permanent corrective actions.


• Support continuous improvement activities designed to improve tool life, product quality, safety, cycle time, and equipment reliability.


• Fabricate or modify replacement components when commercially available parts are unavailable or impractical.


• Perform basic welding, brazing, or other metal repair techniques when qualified and required.


• Maintain accurate records of repairs, preventive maintenance, modifications, and tooling history.


• Maintain tools, machines, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.


• Follow established procedures for lockout/tagout, machine guarding, PPE, and other safety requirements.


• Work collaboratively with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to resolve manufacturing issues.


• Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective-action activities involving tooling or equipment.

• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.

• Other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school education preferred. Requires extensive knowledge of all phases of machining. The ability to read and apply complex engineering drawings and specifications required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic personal computer skills preferred using MS Windows.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends as required by union contract. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer
satisfaction.
