Tooling Coordinator

A successful Tooling Coordinator must have a high level of work commitment, the ability to work independently, be highly organized, have attention to detail, and the ability to plan to ensure all necessary supplies, materials, and equipment are available according to the production schedule. This position is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the tool crib, aiding in maintenance and ordering of supplies needed for production. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the tool crib and all tooling therein (i.e., bolts, jigs, tape, C-5, heater bands, thermocouples, etc), ensuring appropriate quantities are in stock (ordering when necessary) and ensuring each line is supplied with appropriate amounts of      materials to meet manufacturing needs (ex daily, weekly, etc)
• Prepare tooling and materials for production (i.e. die, plates, appropriate bolts, fixtures, jigs, etc.) for the next week’s schedule. This entails pulling all tooling for each job in production, placing it on a cart, and staging it for production personnel as needed 
• Maintain daily contact with First Shift Lead regarding schedule to ensure appropriate tooling is pulled and ready in advance to support current schedule or changes, along with backup tooling in the event of unplanned schedule changes
• Maintain and inspect tooling: receive tooling from production, returning tooling to appropriate location in tool crib, clean if necessary (i.e. procedyne), working closely with the engineering department to determine if tooling needs to be repaired,      polished, or if there are other questions or problems, ensuring tooling is ready for the next production run
• Responsible for turning in all planned or proposed expenditures for authorization by management
• Maintain daily contact with Production Manager regarding schedule, problems, and other issues related to position
• Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment. Inform maintenance of needed repairs through filling out repair documents
• Perform light maintenance work as directed through the maintenance department
• Assist Engineering Department as needed (i.e. polishing, grinding, etc.)
• Inspect extruder screw and barrels for wear and complete inspection reports as appropriate for preventative maintenance.
• Assist the Production Department as needed (i.e., include running an extrusion line, etc.)
• Order parts or supplies as needed
• May be required to work an occasional long day and/or weekends
• Work safely, keeping work area clean and organized
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• High School diploma or its equivalent
• Requires the ability to operate a variety of machinery, small hand tools, and precision measuring devices.
• Ability to be highly organized and work independently
• Ability to complete duties based on forecast and react quickly to changes
• Previous maintenance experience a plus
• Reliance on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Physical Job Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 

• Frequent: Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing, pulling, and moving items: Requires the ability to move around the plant and maneuver product when necessary
• Frequent: Walking and Standing (up to, but not limited to 8hrs): Requires moving around the plant to perform duties and assist coworkers
• Visual requirements: Ability to visually perform inspection of tooling 
• Identifying and reading equipment manuals: Requires recognizing and identifying and using necessary plans, reports, and other informational resources
• Climbing Ladders: Requires being able to climb a rolling ladder, up to 10 feet
• Use of equipment and tools: including hand tools, power tools and measuring devices (calipers, tape measure, protractor, etc.)
• Ability to operate a forklift: upon completion of in-house certification.
• Wear required safety equipment: when appropriate/necessary/required
• Must be able to use hands to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls   

Work Environmental Job Requirements

The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. 

• Due to forklifts and/or other heavy equipment traveling through the warehouse, cracks may appear in the floor, causing uneven walking surfaces
• In the warehouse environment, employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• The warehouse environment can be poorly lit at times
• Floors around work area may become slippery 
• Doors are frequently opened, causing drafts and interior temperature changes
• Internal warehouse temperature can fluctuate (cold to warm) depending on weather conditions
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. (hearing protection is optional but available)
• Position requires, when necessary, working weekends, overtime, and being on call to support the production schedule
