Tour Host-PT

Position Overview:

The Tour Host is responsible for leading walking tours of St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans, delivering a blend of historical insight, cultural commentary, and guest engagement. This role requires an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual who can captivate audiences with stories about the city's rich burial traditions, iconic figures, and architectural heritage. Tour Hosts ensure each guest has a memorable and respectful experience while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

Tour Presentation

• Lead walking tours of St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 with energy, professionalism, and clarity.
• Present accurate historical information using compelling storytelling techniques.
• Customize delivery to suit audience interests and questions while maintaining the tour's structure and timing.

Guest Services

• Greet and engage guests in a friendly, approachable manner.
• Provide general visitor information and answer questions related to the cemetery and New Orleans history.
• Manage guest concerns or complaints with professionalism and a focus on service recovery.
• Promote a respectful and educational atmosphere throughout the tour.

Safety & Security

• Clearly communicate safety and behavior expectations to guests before and during the tour.
• Monitor guest behavior to ensure compliance with cemetery rules and safety protocols.
• Be prepared to respond appropriately to medical or safety-related incidents.

Operational Responsibilities

• Follow the company’s guidelines for pacing, timing, and routing of tours.
• Communicate any incidents, guest feedback, or operational issues to the Tour Manager promptly.
• Adhere to all Archdiocese and city regulations regarding cemetery access and conduct.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed by the City of New Orleans as a Tour Guide (or meet eligibility to obtain a license).
• Prior experience in leading tours or public speaking strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of New Orleans history, with an emphasis on cemeteries, religious customs, and notable local figures.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage groups and keep guests engaged and informed.
• Professional, reliable, and respectful demeanor, especially in a sacred and historical setting.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and speak for extended periods.
• Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
