Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Starting Salary: $100,000/year, with higher salary available depending on experience
CDL: Non-CDL position; Class A or B CDL preferred


Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced Track Operations Manager to provide leadership and field support for railroad operations involving track maintenance, derailment response, specialty lifting, railcar work, and heavy equipment.


This is a hands-on management role suited for someone who is comfortable leading field teams, making decisions in fast-moving situations, and maintaining high safety and performance standards. The position works closely with Supervisors, crews, customers, and other field partners.

Key Responsibilities



  • Oversee and support Supervisors and field crews across multiple projects.

  • Coordinate daily work assignments, manpower, equipment, and project priorities.

  • Monitor job progress to help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

  • Provide hands-on direction, coaching, and problem-solving support in the field.

  • Respond to emergency service needs and assist with time-sensitive operational issues.

  • Conduct job-site visits to evaluate safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance.

  • Identify field risks and implement practical solutions.

  • Maintain effective communication with customers, railroad partners, regulatory agencies, and field personnel.

  • Train, mentor, and develop employees.

  • Assist with recruiting, performance reviews, employee coaching, and workforce planning.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.

  • Review payroll, labor hours, equipment usage, and project documentation for accuracy and timeliness.

  • Monitor equipment condition and coordinate maintenance, repairs, or replacement when necessary.

  • Assist with customer relations and business development activities.

  • Represent the organization at relevant industry events and meetings.


Qualifications



  • Experience in railroad, heavy equipment, construction, or related field operations preferred.

  • Previous experience leading teams in a field-based environment.

  • Strong understanding of DOT and FRA regulations.

  • Class A or Class B CDL preferred.

  • Experience operating or working with heavy equipment, including:

    • Cranes

    • Trucks

    • Excavators

    • Similar heavy equipment



  • Ability to read and interpret crane load charts and rigging requirements.

  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and decision-making abilities.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to learn and use operational software systems.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to successfully complete required safety training and certification programs.


Work & Physical Requirements



  • Frequent overnight travel is required.

  • Must remain on call and able to report to an assignment within approximately 1 hour when needed.

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to work in physically demanding railroad and field environments.

  • Extended hours may be required, including weekends and holidays.

  • Hands-on position requiring frequent walking and work around active rail environments.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
