Position Overview
The Transmission Line Engineer IV is a senior‑level role responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the development of transmission line and substation infrastructure. This position collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, ensures compliance with industry standards, and delivers high‑quality engineering solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who excels in advanced transmission line design, system analysis, mentoring junior staff, and supporting complex utility projects from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop high‑voltage transmission lines, including route selection, structure design, and conductor sizing.
Perform load flow studies, steel/concrete structure and foundation design, and stability analyses to ensure system reliability and safety.
Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, calculations, and drawings for transmission projects.
Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and other engineering disciplines to support successful project execution.
Analyze and troubleshoot existing transmission systems to improve performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, and applicable local codes and standards.
Utilize advanced engineering software such as PLS‑CADD, PSS/E, AutoCAD, and related tools.
Participate in site visits and inspections to assess infrastructure conditions and identify potential issues.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior engineers and support staff.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in transmission engineering.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited program.
10+ years of experience in transmission engineering or related fields.
Electrical substation experience required.
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Experience with overhead and underground distribution systems highly preferred.
Proficiency with transmission line design software such as PLS‑CADD, AutoCAD, M‑FAD, LPILE, or similar tools.
Ability to interpret boring logs, analyze structure calculations, and design distribution‑level lines.
Strong understanding of power system analysis including load flow, short circuit, and stability studies.
Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant codes and standards.
Skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
Experience with project management and construction coordination is a plus.
