Job Description - Truck Scale Operations Associate

Job Summary


The Truck Scale Operations Associate is primarily responsible for supporting truck scale operations through the accurate weighing, recording, processing, and documentation of inbound and outbound material transactions while ensuring compliance with company quality, operational, environmental, and safety standards. This position serves as a key point of coordination between drivers, customers, transportation personnel, yard operations, and management to maintain efficient material flow and accurate operational records.



The Truck Scale Operations Associate, although based in Fond du Lac, will provide truck scale coverage at multiple Wisconsin locations, including Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan. Regular travel between locations is required to support operational needs and business continuity. In addition to scale responsibilities, this position provides administrative support for multiple departments and may provide operations support as needed, including serving as a backup Retail Customer Service Associate during employee absences, vacations, peak workloads, or other operational requirements. Retail customer service responsibilities are secondary to the primary scale operations function.


 


Essential Functions


Truck Scale Operations



  • Accurately weigh inbound and outbound materials while adhering to company quality, environmental, and safety standards.

  • Enter customer, commodity, container, and load information into company systems.

  • Verify transaction accuracy and maintain detailed operational records.

  • Perform daily scale checks and ensure transactions are processed accurately and timely.

  • Maintain accurate records of inbound and outbound loads and supporting documentation.

  • Coordinate truck traffic and material flow utilizing radios and other communication methods.

  • Support material qualification and grading processes in accordance with company procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with material acceptance requirements, operational policies, and established procedures.

  • Travel as necessary to provide scale coverage and operational support at Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan facilities.


 


Administrative & Operations Support



  • Perform clerical and administrative functions supporting multiple departments.

  • Maintain organized records, reports, files, and transaction documentation.

  • Enter operational information accurately into company systems.

  • Assist with reporting, documentation, and information requests.

  • Provide operational support to managers, drivers, yard personnel, transportation staff, and other departments as needed.


 


Other Duties / Responsibilities



  • Provide backup Retail Customer Service Associate coverage as needed.

  • Greet customers, vendors, visitors, and drivers in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls.

  • Assist customers with general inquiries, transactions, payments, and operational questions.

  • Process customer payments and maintain supporting documentation when assigned.

  • File daily paperwork and maintain document retention standards.

  • Support departmental projects, operational initiatives, and peak business periods.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


 


Required Skills / Abilities


Knowledge & Technical Skills



  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Ability to accurately enter and maintain data within company systems.

  • Ability to operate office equipment including computers, calculators, scanners, copiers, and communication devices.

  • Strong mathematical aptitude and transaction-processing skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports.

  • Experience with scale systems, DL4, or similar business systems preferred.

Qualifications, Education & Experience


Education



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


Experience



  • One to two years of related experience preferred.

  • Experience in truck scale operations, transportation, logistics, recycling, scrap metal, manufacturing, or industrial operations preferred.

  • Experience with customer service, transaction processing, recordkeeping, and administrative support preferred.

  • Experience using scale software or related operational systems preferred.


Additional Qualifications



  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between company locations.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.


Physical Requirements



  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer and performing data entry.

  • Must be able to regularly travel between company locations as required.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 15 pounds.

  • Ability to maintain focus, multitask, and remain aware of surroundings throughout the workday.

  • Visual acuity sufficient to review documentation, monitor operations, and maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to effectively communicate using telephones, radios, and other communication devices.
