The Ultrasound Tech is knowledgeable and proficient in the performance of Echocardiograms, Stress Tests, TEE, EKG, and Holter Monitoring.  Employees must work independently with direction from their immediate supervisor.  Employees will work closely with the medical staff to meet their needs as well as the hospital staff on a daily basis. 



Responsibilities

1. Clinical Assessment Skills and Echocardiographic Services        

  • Performs Echocardiograms using departmental protocol for obtaining images.
  • Assists with TEE’s and stress testing, providing images that support the physician’s ability to diagnose patients appropriately.
  • Identifies problems & implements appropriate interventions, including reporting of critical values.
  • Sets priorities for completion of studies based on acuity, patient preference and/or the coordination of care with nursing and other ancillary services. 

2. EKG, Holter Monitoring                                                                                

  • Provides EKG and Holter Services when Echo workload permits.
  • Obtains EKG’s that reflect appropriate lead placement, minimal artifact, and correct patient information.
  • Set up and scans Holter Monitors, providing tracings that support the physician’s ability to diagnose patients appropriately.

3.    Clerical / Documentation / Computer Skills                      

  • Documents completely and clearly all services provided, assuring they can be tracked and traced when needed.
  • Information provided for physicians is clear and accurate.
  • Assists with processing of reports, record copy and report retrieval.
  • Charges reconcile daily with documentation.

4. Communication/Interaction with Patients, Medical and Hospital Staff    

  • Interacts with coworkers, ancillary services, and physicians in an effective manner. 
  • Participates as a preceptor for new employees, agency personnel, and students.
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and family members.
  • Logs and communicate issues with equipment, studies, and patients.


5. Departmental Participation                        

  • Completes competencies/educational requirements, attends departmental meeting/in services, and assists in the department’s pursuit to operate as a team.
  • Assists with preparation and upkeep of department to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Stays current with department computer systems, procedures, and equipment upgrades.
     


Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Registry: ARDMS or CCI
  •  BLS approved by the American Heart Association.
