Underwriter

The first commercial provider-owned health plan in New York State, CareConnect was created by Northwell Health, formerly North Shore-LIJ Health System to make it easy for people to get and stay healthy. Its innovative model is designed to provide access to care that’s both excellent and affordable. CareConnect was founded in 2013 and offers a variety of plans for individuals, families and businesses. CareConnect’s network has grown to more than 20,000 providers at hospitals and physician practices throughout downstate New York. 

Monitors and analyzes underwriting performance based upon claims experience. Develops rates, projections and recommends benefit changes based upon plan underwriting principles. 

1. Monitors and analyzes underwriting performance based upon claims experience.

2. Utilizes underwriting and financial principles to develop rates, projections and recommendations for benefit changes.

3. Assesses financial risk on a case-level basis for both new and renewal business.

4. Maintains underwriting standards through the use of models and manuals.

5. Collaborates with sales staff to generate creative solutions for customer needs.

6. Performs related duties, as required.

*ADA Essential Functions

· Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Mathematics, Business Administration or related field, required.

· Minimum of three (3) years in health product underwriting, preferably large group, required.

· Strong communication, critical thinking, analytical and decision making skills, required.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel
