Utilities Control Room Operator

Shift: 3rd Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 12-hour shifts

Automated Systems, Inc. (ASI) is seeking a Utilities Control Room Operator for a 12+ month contract opportunity supporting a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in North Chicago, IL.

In this role, you will monitor and operate critical plant utility systems that support pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. Working from the Utilities Control Room and under general supervision, you will monitor system performance, respond to alarms and abnormal conditions, assist with troubleshooting, and coordinate with Maintenance and other site personnel to help ensure reliable and compliant utility operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate critical plant utility systems through control room interfaces and building/utility monitoring systems.
  
  


• Monitor utility equipment and systems for proper operation, performance trends, alarms, and abnormal conditions.
  
  


• Monitor and support critical utilities including water systems, steam, compressed air, liquid nitrogen, electrical power, HVAC, and other facility utility systems.
  
  


• Respond to equipment alarms and operational issues, perform initial troubleshooting, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  
  


• Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, Facilities, and other site teams to troubleshoot utility system issues and support timely resolution.
  
  


• Operate and participate in the startup, shutdown, isolation, and maintenance of utility equipment and systems in accordance with established procedures.
  
  


• Perform routine system checks, inspections, readings, and operational verifications to identify potential issues and maintain system reliability.
  
  


• Conduct required quality and operational checks and document results accurately.
  
  


• Maintain accurate and timely control room logs, operating records, checklists, and other required documentation.
  
  


• Follow established SOPs, safety procedures, operating procedures, and site requirements when monitoring and operating utility systems.
  
  


• Communicate system status, equipment conditions, alarms, and operational issues to appropriate site personnel.
  
  


• Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities by providing operational information and coordinating system status with Maintenance personnel.
  
  


• Maintain a strong focus on safe work practices and reliable operation of systems supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  
  

Requirements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
  
  


• Previous experience in manufacturing, production, industrial, facilities, utilities, or plant operations environment preferred.
  
  


• Experience monitoring or operating industrial equipment, utility systems, control systems, or building management systems, a plus.
  
  


• Ability to monitor multiple systems simultaneously and recognize alarms, abnormal conditions, and equipment performance issues.
  
  


• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  
  


• Ability to follow detailed procedures and accurately complete required documentation.
  
  


• Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively with Maintenance, Engineering, Facilities, and other site personnel.
  
  


• Military experience or technical military training is a plus.
  
  


• Experience working in a GMP/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
  
  


• Ability to work onsite on a 3rd-shift, 12-hour schedule (7:00 PM–7:00 AM), including weekends and holidays as required by the operating schedule.
