This position is responsible for underwriting and managing Commercial Lines renewal business, partnering closely with production underwriters, Business Development Representatives, and agency partners to achieve business objectives. You'll evaluate and select risks, influence agency profitability and book composition, provide technical underwriting expertise, and help develop underwriting talent. What You’ll Do:

• Underwrite and manage Commercial Lines renewal business for assigned agency partners, including evaluating, pricing, servicing, and retaining accounts within your portfolio.


• Analyze risks using established underwriting authority levels, guidelines, procedures, and underwriting philosophies while ensuring sound risk selection and profitable outcomes.


• Research and document underwriting issues, identify solutions, and exercise sound judgment when exceptions or unique situations warrant additional review. Refer accounts requiring higher authority as appropriate.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners through regular communication, consultation, and service.


• Effectively market the company's products, services, and underwriting capabilities to agents and brokers.


• Prepare, analyze, and interpret Agency Analysis Reports to assess profitability, quality, trends, and overall composition of agency books of business.


• Recommend pricing strategies that support retention goals, new business objectives, and overall portfolio profitability.


• Deliver renewal quotes and proposal packages professionally and within established service standards.


• Develop and execute agency visitation plans and represent the company at industry meetings, events, and hearings as needed.


• Demonstrate strong time management and responsiveness while applying the appropriate level of underwriting review to each account, from small Business Owners Policy (BOP) accounts to more complex commercial auto and larger risks.


• Maintain expert knowledge of the company's insurance products, pricing methodologies, underwriting guidelines, coverages, endorsements, and underwriting philosophy.


• Serve as a technical resource for agents, underwriters, and internal business partners by interpreting policy language and providing underwriting guidance.


• Collaborate effectively with underwriting team members and cross-functional departments to achieve service, production, and profitability goals.


• Travel to agency partners as needed to strengthen relationships and support business objectives.

What You’ll Bring: 

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional-level knowledge in a specialized field, with relevant related experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.


• 2-4 years of related experience, or an Associate's degree combined with 4-6 years of relevant experience.


• Prior experience as a Commercial Lines Underwriter I, equivalent underwriting professional at another insurer, or an underwriting services supervisor is required.


• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound business judgment and make effective underwriting decisions.


• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence agency partners and internal stakeholders.


• Proven sales, relationship management, and negotiation skills.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capability to evaluate risk, profitability, and market conditions.


• Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
