Job Description - Van Coordinator Team Lead

Job Expectations of a Van Freight Coordinator Team Lead


Assists contractors in moving freight of all kinds safely and on time with professional, courteous, and efficient service to ensure profitability.         



Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm


 


Job duties often include:



  • Coordinates scheduling of vehicles and drivers for meeting overall transportation requirements.

  • Ensures that all Dept. of Transportation and Mercer compliance requirements are maintained.

  • Retains drivers through customer service and meeting contractor expectations.

  • Encourages efficient movement of trucks, always considering time and distance, to ensure profit for Mercer on every load hauled.

  • Records empty status and receives empty calls after trucks have been unloaded.

  • Continually reviews freight availability by reviewing Loads Journal, computer screen and agent calls to announce and offer available freight to drivers.

  • Updates and changes driver’s preferences as load availability changes.

  • Receives loading and en-route check calls from drivers updating their location. Receives details of unscheduled delays, if any, and reports them as needed.

  • Discusses driver reload destinations and sets driver preferences to match freight.

  • Issues electronic trip revenue advances up to the limit that has been set by Mercer policy, and issues non-trip advances with proper management approval.

  • Provides verbal and/or written communication regarding vehicles on the board to the person who will substitute for him or her during planned absences.

  • Promotes good contractor relations with drivers. Discusses and continually monitors goals and objectives of Mercer and the driver.

  • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by Van Operations Management.


 


Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.


Basic experience using computers. Experience using dispatch and trucking software preferred.
