Videographer and Editor

Business Insider’s video team is seeking a Videographer and Editor to create original content for our flagship shows How Crime Works, Authorized Account and The Pay Check among others. 

Role

Authorized Account is an interview-based series speaking to experts who share their accounts of secretive organizations and businesses usually hidden from public view. How Crime Works explains the mechanics of the criminal underworld through interviews with reformed criminals, whistleblowers, and law enforcement officers. The Pay Check breaks down exactly how people earn, spend, budget, and invest. 

As an editor on the team, you'll play an important role in bringing these formats to life.

The role involves attending shoots, both in-person in the New York office and with international studios via video link. As an editor, you'll source footage, edit, and oversee post-production. You’ll collaborate with producers and make thoughtful creative decisions about pacing, visuals, sound, and graphics. 

This position is based at our headquarters in NYC, with an in-office expectation of three days per week. The role is union-eligible.

The Ideal Candidate

• Has excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines, including delivering multiple edits each quarter. 


• Has experience in long-format interview shows, editing podcasts, or journalistic video production.


• Has excellent storytelling judgment: Brings creative ideas that elevate narrative structure, increase viewer engagement, and strengthen the quality and impact of our journalism.


• Is proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere and After Effects


• Is excited by experimenting with AI-powered production tools and workflows.


• Has a proven track record of working with archive sources or researching b-roll footage, which will elevate a story.


• Has excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.


• Is firmly committed to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic standards. 

Key responsibilities

• Edit Authorized Account, How Crime Works and The Pay Check episodes, while consistently meeting tight production deadlines.

• Oversee in-person shoots at the New York OLP studio, serving as the lead creative and technical eye on-site. 


• Act as an archivist for the shows, sourcing high-quality B-roll from our licensed archive and fair use sources.

• Partner with the development team to establish the visual look and pacing for new series launches, creating custom graphic packages and assets as needed.


• Help source and test emerging AI tools to streamline the edit process and reduce turnaround times.
