Vinyl Plating Operator

Salary Range: Entry Level (band 1): $16.00 – $20.00 per hour

Love records? Come help make them! Every vinyl record begins as a lacquer, and what turns that one-of-a-kind disc into a thousand copies a fan can hold is a nickel stamper, grown in a plating bath, finished by hand, and held to a tolerance you can hear. If you have ever pulled a record out of its sleeve and wondered how the grooves got there, this is the job where you find out.

Disc Makers has been helping independent artists release physical music since 1946. We are building out our vinyl plating department and hiring detail-oriented people to run it. No plating experience required — we will train you on a craft that very few people in the country know how to do.

Available Shift

• Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This is a 5-day, 40-hour workweek, with occasional overtime as business requires.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lacquers and process them through our vinyl plating baths to create stampers for record pressing.
• Clean and finish stampers using a variety of chemical and machine processes, following instructions carefully.
• Monitor product quality and report all variations to management.
• Maintain production schedules to meet fast turnaround commitments, including expedited orders.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent 
• Experience with light industrial machinery is a plus
• Record pressing experience is a plus

Special Skills Required

• Language – Must be able to take direction and communicate in Basic English as well as read and understand written documents
• Math – Must be able to use and understand simple mathematics, using addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of the Standard/Imperial measuring system is required, and knowledge of the metric system is a plus
• Computer literacy
• Have attention to detail
• Willingness to learn a hands-on trade and follow procedures precisely
• Comfortable working with plating chemistry after training

Physical Demands

• Standing and walking 7–8 hours per day
• Walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 35 lbs
• Must be able to see defects with the naked eye or corrected vision
