POSITION TITLE:  Volunteer Driver 

POSITION TYPE:  Volunteer Position (Unpaid) 

REPORTS TO:  Client Operations Manager 

AGENCY/LOCATION:  The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION/ POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Volunteer Driver provides safe, reliable, and trauma-informed transportation for children and caregivers served by The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester (The CAC). This role ensures passenger safety, confidentiality, and compliance with organizational policies while maintaining vehicle readiness, completing required documentation, and representing the organization with professionalism, sensitivity, and respect.

This is an unpaid volunteer position with hours that may fluctuate weekly, based on client needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Safe Transportation — Provide safe, reliable transport for children and caregivers to and from The CAC, ensuring adherence to all New York State vehicle and child-passenger safety laws

· Child Safety Protocols — Ensure passengers are secure and maintain constant supervision of children during transport

· Trauma-Informed Conduct — Interact with children and families using calm, supportive, and non-intrusive communication; avoid discussing case details or asking personal questions

· Confidentiality Protection — Safeguard all identifying information; refrain from sharing names, circumstances, or destinations except with authorized staff

· Pre-Trip Verification — Confirm trip details, passenger list, consent forms, and any special considerations

· Vehicle Readiness — Check fuel level, cleanliness, seatbelts, car seats, and general safety before departure; report any mechanical issues immediately

· Accurate Documentation — Complete required logs, sign keys in/out, and record mileage, times, and any notable incidents

· Communication with Staff — Notify scheduling staff of delays, cancellations, or concerns; maintain prompt communication throughout the transport process

· Boundary Maintenance — Maintain professional, supportive boundaries at all times

· Emergency Preparedness — Follow CAC emergency procedures, know how to respond to vehicle issues, and ensure children remain safe and supervised during any unexpected event

· Cultural and Family Sensitivity — Respect diverse backgrounds, communication styles, and family structures; avoid assumptions or judgment

· Professional Representation — Serve as a positive, reliable representative of The CAC, modeling respect, calmness, and professionalism

· Complete and maintain required trainings

· Other duties, as assigned 


Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate proficiency in meeting competencies required for the position; and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred

· Prior experience transporting children and families or working in a child-serving, social service, or community setting preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

· Valid New York State driver license, satisfactory driving record, and ability to meet agency insurance requirements

· Demonstrated safe driving practices and knowledge of vehicle and child-passenger safety requirements

· Reliable, punctual, and able to follow assigned schedules and transportation procedures 

· Calm, respectful, and trauma-informed communication skills when interacting with children, caregivers, and staff

· Sound judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and constant attention to passenger safety

· Ability to complete transportation logs accurately, conduct basic vehicle safety checks, and promptly report concerns

· Ability to navigate assigned routes, communicate delays or changes, and respond calmly and appropriately during unexpected situations

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

· A confidentiality statement must be signed

· Background check must be cleared

· Mandated Reporter training must be completed

TIME COMMITMENT:

· The minimum availability requirement is one shift per week

· Weekly schedules may vary and will fall between Monday through Thursday, with occasional minimal evening hours, not extending beyond 7:00 p.m.
