The Learning Experience Design Consultant applies pedagogical knowledge to design and develop best-in-class online learning experiences for both credit and non-credit courses. This position works closely with faculty subject matter experts (SMEs) of varying design experience to guide and provide carefully crafted course feedback that outlines useful and creative solutions while encouraging faculty through their design and development journey. The consultant will collaborate with SMEs on learning objectives, relevant career skills, assessments, rubrics, and high-quality learning objects and assets within the LMS (Moodle) within designated 16-week design and development timelines and cycles. Additionally, provides design support to faculty by providing design consultations, evaluating faculty-developed online courses according to LSU Online quality standards, completing course user-testing and implementing course resources when necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
Collaborates with faculty/subject matter experts via one-on-one consultations and asynchronous communication to design and develop online learning experiences in alignment with best practices in online pedagogy and user interface design. 25%
Utilizes required tools for course design and development and adheres to style guides and quality standards for learning experiences. Adheres to course structure and designs and develops high-quality video assets, engaging instructional materials from faculty/SME content, adaptive learning activities, and assessment content according to the faculty needs or each module in a course. 25%
Evaluates course content against LSU Online quality standards and provides written feedback that is clear and actionable. 25%
Completes course user-testing and quality assurance protocols. 20%
Other duties as assigned. 5%
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience
Specific Experience:
Instructional design and course development experience (e.g., aligning outcomes, designing assessments, building multimedia assets); Familiarity with and experience applying the QM rubric—or equivalent online course rubric (i.e. providing specific and constructive feedback during course reviews); Experience working in learning management systems (Moodle).
Additional Requirements:
Operation Essential Personnel - This position may be asked to work during an official closure, but who is otherwise not required to report to the physical campus during a closure and whose absence does not present a risk to the safety, resources, and well-being of the campus per FASOP HR-01.
