Warehouse Packing Lead (Full-time): 

Position Summary

The Warehouse Packing Lead serves as a technical leader for our packing operations within the Wholesale Food Distribution department. This role coordinates daily packing activities, optimizes workflows, and ensures quality standards while providing functional guidance to the packing team. The Warehouse Packing Lead maintains critical oversight of order fulfillment operations without direct personnel management responsibilities.

Warehouse Packing Lead Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

• Coordinate daily packing operations including workflow planning, task allocation, and quality control oversight
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures for efficient and accurate order packing
• Train team members on proper packing techniques, food handling protocols, and quality standards
• Oversee the assembly and preparation of customer orders according to specifications and delivery schedules
• Maintain strict quality control through regular inspection of packed orders and random quality checks
• Collaborate with Logistics Team to synchronize packing schedules with delivery routes and timing
• Provide critical feedback to improve product flow, space utilization, and operational efficiency

Qualifications

• Minimum two (2) years of experience in food distribution operations with demonstrated expertise in packing processes
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards, handling practices, and quality control for fresh produce
• Proven ability to coordinate activities and provide technical guidance to team members
• Strong problem-solving abilities and process improvement mindset
• Effective communication skills with ability to coordinate across multiple functional areas
• Experience with inventory management systems and warehouse operations

Ideal Qualifications

• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a warehouse environment
• Forklift certification and experience with warehouse equipment
• Food handling certification or extensive training in food safety protocols
• Experience with inventory management software and barcode systems
• Knowledge of FSMA requirements and food distribution best practices

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout shift

Ability to stand for extended periods of time

Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments (including refrigerated areas)

Comfortable with frequent movement between warehouse and delivery activities

Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment

Schedule

This position is full-time and hourly and requires a rotating schedule and availability. Shift assignments may occur any day between Monday-Sunday. Early AM shift start times typically between 5AM-7AM. Shift end times vary according to warehouse volume and delivery routes. Average 8-hour shifts and 35-40 hour work week. This is a fully in-person role.

Compensation

The position is a non-exempt full-time and hourly position. It pays $23 - $25 per hour and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, FSA programs, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days). This position is union eligible.
