Description

Leads the development, implementation, and sustainment of a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program designed to promote a safe, respectful, and healing environment for caregivers, patients, families, and visitors. Serves as the program owner and subject matter expert for workplace violence prevention, translating strategic goals into systemwide policies, processes, training, and performance measures that reduce risk, strengthen regulatory readiness, and support both physical and psychological safety. Partners across nursing, security, behavioral health, human resources, emergency preparedness, legal and risk, and operational leaders to identify risks, monitor trends, guide mitigation efforts, support regional implementation, and foster a culture of prevention, resilience, and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities
  • Leads and coordinates the design, implementation, and sustainment of the workplace violence prevention program across the organization.
  • Develops and maintains program infrastructure, policies, procedures, tools, and implementation plans aligned with organizational strategy and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as the primary program contact and subject matter expert for workplace violence prevention, providing consultation to leaders, departments, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Partners with nursing, security, behavioral health, human resources, legal and risk, emergency preparedness, clinical education, and operations to support standardized program execution and local operationalization.
  • Identifies, evaluates, mitigates, and responds to workplace violence risks and trends impacting caregivers, patients, visitors, and the physical environment.
  • Monitors compliance with OSHA, The Joint Commission, CMS, and other applicable workplace violence prevention and safety standards; supports survey readiness, tracers, audits, and follow-up action plans.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates training and education related to workplace violence awareness, prevention, de-escalation, trauma-informed care, and response.
  • Collaborates with analytics and operational partners to develop dashboards, track key performance indicators, review incident and occurrence data, and translate findings into actionable improvement strategies.
  • Guides continuous improvement efforts by identifying emerging risks, recommending program enhancements, and supporting implementation of best practices across settings.
  •  Prepares reports, briefings, and presentations for leaders and stakeholders regarding program status, compliance, trends, and outcomes.
  • Supports strategic planning, budgeting, resource coordination, and change management activities necessary to achieve program goals, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Builds collaborative relationships across regions and departments to strengthen a culture of safety, prevention, resilience, and caregiver support.
  •  May support onboarding, coaching, and coordination of staff or regional partners involved in workplace violence prevention activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree - business administration, healthcare administration, nursing, behavioral health, public health, safety, program management, or a related field - Required
  • Master’s Degree - nursing, healthcare administration, business administration, public health, safety, program management, or related field - Preferred

 

Work Experience

  • 3-5 Years - relevant experience in workplace violence prevention, employee safety, risk management, behavioral health, emergency services, patient care operations, workforce well-being, or related program leadership - Required
  • Prior experience leading projects, programs, or teams and managing multiple priorities in a complex healthcare environment - Preferred
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, data analysis, training program implementation, and continuous improvement methodologies - Preferred

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • AVADE Instructor Certification - Required within 180 days of hire and maintained thereafter

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of workplace violence prevention, program management, regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and data-driven performance improvement. Demonstrated ability in strategic and systems thinking, change management, business acumen, decision-making, conflict resolution, communication, presentation, facilitation, and influencing without direct authority. Skilled in identifying risk trends, developing policies and processes, managing complex projects, and implementing sustainable solutions in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, lead through ambiguity, support trauma-informed approaches, and promote physical and psychological safety throughout the organization.
