Reporting to the Service Manager, the Service Engineer installs, commissions, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs Liebherr Gear Technology equipment such as gear- hobbing, grinding, shaping, skiving, and deburring machines including Liebherr Automation Systems such as conveyors, part markers, vision systems, and part buffering systems. The equipment/systems is/are composed of electrical, controls, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication systems/components. *The ideal candidate would be located in Southern Ontario or GTA (Greater Toronto Area).*
- Installation, start-up, commissioning and debugging of Liebherr Gear Cutting and Automation equipment in accordance with all safety requirements and procedures.
- Troubleshooting and repair of electrical, controls, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication systems/components.
- Follow documented commissioning protocol, reporting and closing open issues, and obtaining customer sign-offs as required on issues and warranty start.
- Provide preventive maintenance to customers; following preventive maintenance check lists and completing all tasks.
- Provide training to customers; following training manuals to execute electrical and mechanical maintenance and operator training.
- Track all delays in installations and interact with customer and Liebherr project managers to communicate progress and open issues.
- Report hours and expenses as directed by Liebherr procedures in the required timeframe.
- Extensive travel required, domestic and international. Includes preparing travel arrangements for flight, car, hotel, etc.
- Comply with all state, local, and customer safety requirements (general safety, electrical discharge awareness/arc-flash, quality system awareness, and lock-out tag-out).
- Advise operators and maintenance electricians and mechanics of operation and maintenance procedures and requirements for working safely with equipment and components.
- Maintain company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, with 3-5 years of experience in the electrical, or mechanical field; or a combination of education and relevant experience. A 2-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program in a relevant field is preferred. Experience with reading electrical, mechanical prints, as well as experience with industrial controls PLC, NC, and HMI (i.e. Siemens) is required.•

- Ability to perform hard- and software changes.
- Ability to restore PCU and NCU.

- Travel up to 90% of the time.

Job Title: Service Engineer - Controls
Liebherr Gear Technology, Inc. seeks a Service Engineer - Controls based in Saline, Michigan. This position will be responsible for conducting, maintaining, testing, and repairing the electrical/electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems/components within Liebherr’s gear technology machine (gear hobbing, gear grinding, and gear shaping machine) products. This individual will be responsible for determining equipment malfunctions related to the Liebherr gear technology machine products, applying skills in restoring the products to operation, and providing skilled technical support to customers utilizing these products. This position requires domestic and international travel approximately 75% of the time. Will work at various unanticipated customer locations throughout the U.S. When not required to travel, may telecommute from any location in the U.S.
Job Duties:
- Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical equipment including, but not limited to, programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gages, and test equipment.
- Installation, start-up, commissioning and debugging of Liebherr gear machine products in accordance with all safety requirements and procedures.
- Follows documented commissioning protocols, reports and closes open issues, and obtains customer sign-offs as required on issues and warranty start.
- Provides service to existing customers, including troubleshooting and diagnosing controls, electrical, mechanical, lubrication, and pneumatic systems issues related to the Liebherr gear machines.
- Provides service preventive maintenance to existing customers for their Liebherr gear machine products, including following preventive maintenance task lists and completing all tasks.
- Provides training to existing customers, including following training manuals to execute electrical and mechanical maintenance and operator training related to the Liebherr products.
- Complies with local and national electrical codes, understands properties of installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures.
- Tracks all delays in installations and interacts with customers and Liebherr project managers to communicate progress and open issues.
- Reports hours and expenses as directed by Liebherr procedures in the required timeframe.
- Completes all assigned Liebherr training requirements; Complies with all state, local, and customer safety requirements (general safety, electrical discharge awareness/arc-flash, quality system awareness, and lock-out tag-out).

- Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
Job Requirements:
- High School (including Technical High Schools) Diploma (foreign qualification and/or diploma equivalent to U.S. High School (including Technical High Schools) Diploma accepted).
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with gear technology machines, including shaping, hobbing, and/or grinding machines. This experience must include three (3) years of experience:
- Troubleshooting and analyzing performance issues with gear technology machines (gear shaping, gear hobbing, and/or gear grinding machines) related to their electrical/electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems;
- Installing, assembling, and commissioning gear technology machines;
- Testing and programming computer numerical controls (CNC), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and human machine interface (HMI) within gear machines.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Read and understand technical engineering drawings;
- Communicate clearly and concisely; and
- Complete assigned tasks in a professional manner.
- Must be able to work weekends and on-call as necessary.
