Job Description - Youth Advocate

Elementary Program Coordinator
(Youth Advocate) 

Job Summary:

As co-leader of TRH’s elementary program (On Belay), the Youth Advocate co-leads with the other youth advocate(s) to oversee activities for kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The Youth Advocate is a vital member of the Family Support Team, working closely with Family Advocates (FA) and other Youth Advocates (YA).

Essential Job Duties:

Alongside current Youth Advocate: 

  • Oversee and implement student-centered activities, field trips, and special events at On Belay after-school and summer programs for K-5 youth, rotating responsibilities with the co-advocate.
  • Collaborate with the co-advocate, Family Advocates, and the Director of Programs to ensure program goals are met and maintain program continuity when the co-advocate is unavailable.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with families in the program and within The Village, meeting with guardians and Family Advocates to craft individualized plans tailored to each child using EMPath's Intergen Model and Harmony Family Center's therapeutic assessments.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings, including FST meetings, weekly staff meetings, off-site planning sessions, one-on-ones, the annual staff retreat, and the Christian Community Development Conference.
  • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, student progress, and evaluation data, while preparing reports for funders, stakeholders, and board members.
  • Help recruit and onboard new team members and facilitate training for staff, interns, and volunteers on trauma-responsive practices.
  • Manage program resources and budget, including procuring supplies and equipment while following fiscal policies.
  • Coordinate with school staff for student pick-ups, academic discussions, and partnership development.
  • Actively seek new community partnerships relevant to On Belay, maintaining relationships with current partners.
  • Ensure safety standards are followed, including behavior management, child ratios, transportation, CPR, emergency procedures, and first aid.
  • Oversee additional projects and assignments as needed.
 

Qualifications:
 

Dedication to Youth Advocacy: 

  • Experience in roles focused on teaching, mentoring, or supporting children through behavioral strategies and trauma-informed practices.
  • Familiarity with reflective listening, safety planning, and strengths-based advocacy.
  • Commitment to building relationships with community organizations, churches, and other partners.
  • Must possess a valid TN driver’s license and be willing to obtain a CDL.

  • Emotional and spiritual maturity with sound judgment in working with families, volunteers, and partners.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit.

Communication and Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Proficient in written and oral communication, capable of effectively conveying The Restoration House’s mission to the community
  • Communicates in a timely and clear manner, mindful of being kind and trauma-responsive, whether interacting with children,  families, staff, or partners.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, creative/strategic thinking, and organizational abilities

Compensation/Benefits

  1. This is a salaried position and compensation is determined based on experience and education – Range of $38K to $42K annually 
  • Paid by direct deposit twice per month
  1. Health insurance; covered 100% for employee after first 3 months of employment
  2. Paid time off:
  • Vacation: 10 days of paid vacation (eligible after first 90 days) + annual increase based on years employed
  • Sick/Personal Days: 5 days in year one + annual increase based on years employed
  • Spiritual Renewal Days: 1 day each quarter 
  • Paid Holidays: 11 paid holidays per year
  1. Paid individual professional development up to $600 per year
  2. Reimbursement for individual therapy sessions up to $500 per year
  3. Monthly micro-bonuses
  4. Free family membership to the YMCA (all Knoxville branches)
  5. Flextime 
  6. Ability to work from home as approved
 

Hours: 

This job is a full-time position with an average of 40+ hours per week, including occasional weekends or weeknights.
