ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief Modesto is looking for compassionate, professional, and dedicated people who are interested in working with refugee youth in Modesto. If hired, you will have the responsibility of coordinating a summer program specifically tailored to the children of newly-arrived Afghan families that are ages 13-17. The summer program will last 2.5 weeks. If you are someone who demonstrates innovation, hospitality, and grit, apply for this role and join our World Relief Modesto team.

 

This is a full-time temporary position that will end on August 15th, 2026.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Facilitate and coordinate all aspects of the 2.5-week summer youth program

  • Recruit summer program participants and volunteers

  • Schedule speakers and culturally appropriate activities

  • Work with World Relief staff members and volunteers to ensure all tasks are completed

  • Manage the summer program budget and maintain equipment inventory

  • Prepare the facility prior to participant arrival and ensure cleanup at the end of each day

  • Ensure all organizational guidelines are followed, including liability forms and waivers

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with youth participants

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and encouragement in a safe and inclusive environment

  • Monitor participant behavior and address conflicts using trauma-informed approaches

  • Adapt activities to meet different ages, abilities, and language levels

  • Follow all child protection, mandatory reporting, and safeguarding policies

  • Track attendance and participant engagement

  • Assist with program evaluation, feedback collection, and outcome reporting

  • Co-lead daily activities such as games, workshops, field trips, or educational sessions

  • Ensure activities are engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate

  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief

  • Extremely detail-orientated; excellent time management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Skill and sensitivity working with people from various backgrounds and beliefs

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and resolve problems/issues promptly and effectively

  • Ability to work well on a team in a synergistic work environment, a flexible and motivated team player

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize in a fast paced and fluid environment

  • Assist with program evaluation, feedback collection, and outcome reporting

  • Train and guide volunteers on expectations, youth interaction, and cultural considerations

  • Delegate tasks effectively and provide ongoing support

  • Model professionalism and positive behavior

  • Support setup/cleanup beyond basic expectations when needed

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet MVR eligibility requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities

  • Undergraduate degree preferred

  • Previous professional experience in social services sector strongly preferred

  • Experience working with youth from various cultural backgrounds

$24 - $25 an hour
