The Accounting and Auditing Intern will assist in planning, implementing and executing recurring and one-time projects in the Finance Office. This individual will also assist with the regular parish/school financial review process, and potentially on-site audits.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct online preliminary audit checks for parishes and schools.
Using QuickBooks, analyze financial reports and transactions for trends, accounting issues, and other relevant items when on-site.
Assist with remote and on-site audit field work, including reviewing accounts payable and receivable; asset accounts; payroll and tax reporting; internal controls and cash handling procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of economic and nonprofit accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
Committed to ongoing training and professional development; regularly explores methods to improve quality and efficiency of work.
Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work tasks.
Adheres to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and standards set by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
Is a self-starter and assertive in completing job tasks and duties.
Proficient in computer and keyboard skills as well as an ability to learn and effectively use basic software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Background in and/or knowledge of the Catholic Church with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Currently enrolled or a recent graduate at a college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management or a closely related field required.
