AmeriCorps Member – Nutrition Education

Position Summary 



The AmeriCorps Nutrition Education Member will expand access to nutrition education across Together's Regional Food Access Program by providing participants with practical skills, resources, and support to make healthy food choices. The member will work alongside pantry staff, community partners, and volunteers to increase confidence in meal planning, food preparation, and healthy eating while helping participants maximize the nutritious foods they receive through Together's food access programs. 



This position focuses on increasing food security through education, community engagement, and resource connection while supporting Together's mission to nourish families and strengthen communities. 



Service Term 



½  Time AmeriCorps Service Position 



Service term and required hours determined by program guidelines 



Essential Responsibilities 



Provide one-on-one and small group nutrition education to pantry participants. 



Develop and distribute easy-to-understand nutrition materials, recipes, and healthy meal ideas using foods commonly available through the pantry. 



Offer meal planning, budgeting, and food storage education to help participants maximize their food resources. 



Conduct cooking demonstrations and food tastings featuring pantry items when appropriate. 



Create culturally responsive nutrition resources that reflect the diverse populations served by Together. 



Support healthy food promotions by highlighting nutritious pantry selections and seasonal produce. 



Collaborate with community organizations, health partners, and local educators to expand nutrition education opportunities throughout the region. 



Assist with nutrition-focused community events, outreach activities, and wellness initiatives. 



Track participant engagement, educational contacts, and program outcomes for AmeriCorps reporting requirements. 



Gather participant feedback to improve nutrition education services and identify additional community needs. 



Promote available community resources, including SNAP-Ed programming, WIC, senior nutrition resources, and other health and wellness services. 



Support volunteers and staff by providing education materials and best practices related to nutrition and healthy eating. 



Travel between Together pantry locations and community partner sites to deliver education throughout the regional service area. 



Member Outcomes 



By the end of the service term, the AmeriCorps Member will help: 



Increase participant knowledge of healthy eating and nutrition. 



Improve participant confidence in preparing healthy meals using pantry foods. 



Expand access to nutrition education across Together's regional service area. 



Strengthen partnerships with community organizations focused on health and wellness. 



Increase utilization of healthy pantry options through education and participant engagement. 



Develop sustainable nutrition education materials and programming that can continue beyond the member's service term. 



Desired Qualifications 



Passion for food security, nutrition, and community health. 



Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 



Ability to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds with respect and compassion. 



Comfortable speaking to small groups and providing educational presentations.



Organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently.



Experience in nutrition, public health, education, social work, or a related field is preferred but not required.

The AmeriCorps Nutrition Education Member will strengthen Together's Regional Food Access Program by ensuring participants receive not only nutritious food, but also the knowledge and skills needed to prepare healthy meals, stretch their grocery budgets, and improve long-term health outcomes. Through education and community partnerships, the member will help create a more holistic approach to food security across the region.
