Card Fraud Analyst Trainee

Role: Shadows and learns the technical skills necessary to assist and back up the Card Services Fraud Analyst. Responsible for transaction research, trend management, report generation, card fraud rule writing, and implementing strategies when appropriate. The expected duration of this position is 9-12 months.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Shadow the Card Services Analyst position to learn the essentials functions of their day to day role including but not limited to:
  Learn to identify transaction types and risk profiles.
  Monitor real time fraud monitoring systems for trends and/or suspicious activity.
  Analyze account activity and transaction patters to uncover potential fraud.
  Acquire technical skills necessary to independently operate Redi Verify platform, including card fraud rule writing.
  Place temporary holds on cards or accounts to prevent losses when fraud is suspected


• Assist with fraud claims by gathering information and preparing case files for investigation. Respond to research requests from Card Specialists, Branches, and Contact Center agents.


• May be required to assist the card services area with calls regarding card functions and disputes.


• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Performance Measurements:

• Generate and analyze reports on scheduled and ad hoc basis. Be proactive in seeking ways to improve CU fraud and dispute policies, profitability, and efficiency.


• Seek opportunities to improve processes and develop efficiencies.


• Gain proficiency with Redi Verify, Keystone, Visa Risk Online, FINBOA, and Engage Point.


• Maintain a professional work environment and businesslike appearance. 


• Provide informed, accurate, and professional service and support to all members and staff. 

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: One month to twelve months of similar or related experience.

Education: A high school education or GED.

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves contact with persons beyond immediate associates regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors), requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

Other Skills: Must have a problem-solving mindset. Must be detail-oriented and analytical. Must be able to learn new software and systems easily. Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office. Must be a self-starter who works well in both independent and team environments 

Physical Requirements: Light lifting required.
