Brookside Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school serving Pre-K through 8th-grade students in Kansas City Public School (KCPS) boundaries. We focus on rigorous academics, leadership skills, and the whole child to prepare students for success beyond our doors. POSITION SUMMARY & PURPOSE



The City Year Student Success Coach is a full-time AmeriCorps member who mentors and supports students in achieving academic, behavioral, and attendance success. Serving during the school year, the Student Success Coach works in an assigned classroom and actively partners with the classroom teacher to strengthen student learning in mathematics and/or English language arts (ELA). The City Year team also collaborates with Brookside Charter School to support and lead schoolwide events and community-building activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic, Behavior, and Attendance Support



  • Serve in an assigned classroom during the school year and actively partner with the classroom teacher.

  • Provide individual, small-group, and classroom-based support.

  • Reinforce teacher-led lessons, learning goals, routines, and instructional expectations.

  • Help students practice academic skills, complete learning tasks, and develop confidence and persistence.

  • Use approved instructional materials, strategies, and student data to provide targeted support under the direction of the classroom teacher and City Year staff.

  • Communicate student progress, concerns, and successes to the appropriate teacher and City Year supervisor.

  • Provide encouragement, coaching, and check-ins that promote positive behavior and engagement.

  • Support classroom routines and help students develop habits that contribute to academic and personal success.

  •  Meet all City Year and AmeriCorps eligibility requirements for service.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • This position may require sitting, standing, and walking for intermittent periods, as well as moderate dexterity in operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, printer, copier). 

  • This position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking.
