Civil/Environmental Engineering Intern/Co-op Water (Summer 2027)

Your Opportunity

As a Civil or Environmental Engineering Intern, you will work in a team environment and have exposure to infrastructure projects which may include water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, conveyance pipelines, urban drainage and hydraulic models. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking or have taken civil engineering design, process engineering or construction management type courses. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support several exciting local projects. This internship position is for Summer 2027 and will be at or near full-time in one of our offices in South Burlington, VT; Providence, RI; Hartford, CT; or Auburn, NH, with the opportunity to convert to longer-term employment.

Your Key Responsibilities

Assisting Engineers and Designers in preparation of calculations, reports, drawings and specifications, as well as other documents for bidding and construction purposes. Common project types are combined sewer overflow mitigation, urban flood relief, water main replacement, large pipelines, infrastructure rehabilitation, treatment plant upgrades, and area-wide stormwater compliance. Project tasks include:

• Word processing and preparing calculations.


• Preparing and editing drawings within CAD/BIM software platforms.


• Engineering services during construction of water infrastructure.


• Supporting field investigation in a team setting.


• Completing other engineering tasks and administrative duties, as required.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and cloud variants.


• Have a general understanding of basic AutoCAD Civil 3D.  REVIT experience is a plus.


• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with a desire to network.


• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, take direction and meet deadlines.


• Knowledge of state and federal regulations, policies, and programs are a plus.


• Possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Education and Experience

• Applicants should be in progress toward earning a bachelor’s degree (minimum) in civil or environmental engineering. Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following:
  
  
  
  • Fluid hydraulics (open channel flow, pressure pipe, pumping)
  
  
  • Treatment processes (biological, chemical, mechanical)
  
  
  • Construction management (document control, contractor coordination)
  
  
  • Technical writing

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for large portions of the day. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather (safety training will be provided).
