NG-MIP is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.\n\nResponsibilities for this internship position are:\n\nNorthrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman \u2013 Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for SkillBridge. During this program, the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career-type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.\n\nGoals \u2013 Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity at the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.\n\nObjectives \\- Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly trained, capable, future employees who align with the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission \u201cDefining Possible\u201d on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.\n\nOutcome \u2013 Offer transitioning service members a rewarding opportunity to join the Northrop Grumman team.\n\nDoD SkillBridge Eligibility:\n\n * Has served at least 180 days on active duty\n\n * Is within 12 months of separation or retirement\n\n * Will receive an honorable discharge\n\n * Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS\n\n * Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months\n\n * Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to the start of the internship\n\n\n\n\nExpand your horizons, advance your career, and contribute to a secure future for generations. Northrop Grumman\u2019s Space Sector invites you to bring your pioneering spirit to our collaborative teams. As a Guidance Navigation Control (GNC) Engineer supporting our Space team, this role will be based at our Dulles, VA location. On our team, you\u2019ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. \n\nThis role is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. \n\nThe GNC team designs, builds, and tests spacecraft subsystems for a mix of DoD, NASA, and commercial customers. We are leaders in innovative solutions to the rapidly growing/evolving fields of space based autonomous rendezvous and docking and rapid design/production of small satellites.\n\nJob Responsibilities \nIn this role you will:\n\n * Design, analyze, and tune spacecraft attitude and position control loops using time and frequency domain techniques\n\n * Design and analyze relative guidance solutions for Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO)\n\n * Design, analyze, and tune sequential filters (e.g. Kalman filters) for attitude determination and relative navigation\n\n * Analyze and test the spacecraft GNC subsystem performance using simulations and other analytic tools\n\n * Perform analysis to support early design phase concept development including actuator sizing and placement, sensor selection and placement, attitude and position guidance, rendezvous, proximity operations and docking analyses, and predicted performance assessments\n\n * Develop simulation models for sensors (e.g. star tracker, rate gyro, accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer, sun sensors), actuators (e.g. reaction wheel, torque bar, thruster, CMG), system dynamics (e.g. rigid body, multi-body, orbit mechanics, flexible models, propellant slosh), and the space environment (e.g. atmospheric, solar radiation pressure, third-body gravity, geopotential)\n\n * Communication is a key element of your role and all GNC engineers are expected to:\n\n * Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company process, and knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control, and estimation theory to perform tasks to advanced program/project goals\n\n * Document designs, analysis, and test results and create presentation materials\n\n * Present designs, analysis, and test results to internal and external customers\n\n * Work well within small- to medium-sized groups\n\n\n\n\nThis role is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. \n\nBasic Qualifications: \n\n * Requires an active/current U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret (TS) security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval AND Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) approval/access within a reasonable period of time\n\n * Level 3: (Principal level)\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree with 5 years of relevant engineering experience\n\n * May consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of a completed degree\n\n * Master\u2019s degree with 3 years of relevant engineering experience\n\n * PhD with 1 year of relevant engineering experience\n\n * Level 4: (Sr Principal level)\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree with 8 years of relevant engineering experience\n\n * May consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of a completed degree\n\n * Master\u2019s degree with 6 years of relevant engineering experience\n\n * PhD with 4 years of relevant engineering experience\n\n * Experience developing software in MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++\n\n * Experience in Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) subsystem design, analysis, and testing; can include Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS)\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Current/Active TS with SCI\n\n * MS or PhD in engineering, physics, or math\n\n * Experience with version control tools such as SVN or Git\n\n * Experience implementing spacecraft GNC algorithms on embedded systems\n\n * Strong technical fundamentals in the areas of spacecraft attitude and orbit dynamics, navigation filtering and/or control systems design\n\n * Experience with on-orbit space vehicle operations, commanding, debugging, and use of flight telemetry to track performance metrics\n\n * Experience with Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) algorithms, practices and planning strategies\n\n * Experience with performing spacecraft GNC design, analysis, Hardware (HW) and Integration \u0026 Test (I\u0026T), or flight operations.\n\n * Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities\n\n * Previous/current membership or leadership roles in professional groups, clubs, or extracurricular activities are desired\n\n\n\n\nCurious about all the exciting developments with the Northrop Grumman Space Sector? Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
