Intern - External Affairs

JOBSUMMARY
Join ITC Midwest for our Summer 2027 Internship Program and gain valuable experience supporting strategic business initiatives while developing practical skills through meaningful, real-world assignments. 

The External Affairs Intern will support ITC Midwest's strategic growth initiatives and external engagement activities throughout the summer program. This engaging and dynamic role provides firsthand exposure to how business unit strategies are developed, communicated, and executed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the execution of business unit goals and strategic initiatives by:

• Assisting in the development of communications materials, messaging plans, and outreach strategies
• Leverage artificial intelligence and emerging technology tools to conduct research, develop intelligence reports, prepare issue briefs and presentations, and support business unit decision-making.
• Monitor industry trends, public discussions, and community perspectives to identify emerging opportunities, challenges, and stakeholder concerns
• Prepare reports, briefing materials, executive summaries, and presentations that communicate insights and recommendations to business unit leadership
• Supporting public information meetings, community outreach activities, and stakeholder engagement efforts associated with major infrastructure projects
• Assisting with the planning and execution of company-sponsored employee events and community programs
• Supporting local, state, and community outreach efforts including stakeholder visits, charitable giving initiatives, and public events
• Participating in outreach activities with customers, local officials, community organizations, and other key stakeholders
• Attending public meetings, hearings, industry events, and community forums to gather information and enhance understanding of the energy landscape
• Supporting relationship management efforts that strengthen ITC Midwest's presence and partnerships across its service territory
• During the internship, candidates will have opportunities to gain experience in a variety of strategic business functions, including:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, Business, or a related degree track at a 4-year university.
• Ability to travel to locations in Iowa as needed.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
• Ability to take direction and action quickly.
• Ability to work both independently but also with teams.
• Ability to demonstrate and excel in Quality, Innovation, Performance, Collaboration, Courage, and Integrity in a cross-matrix team environment.
• This program is a 12-week program during the summer, with 40-hour work weeks.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer. ITC does not sponsor employment visas, such as H-1B or TN visas.
