Overview

Yale Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Web Team Internship

The websites intern will work directly with FAS Web Team on a range of websites across the university, building on the YaleSites Drupal 10.x platform.

Projects may include:

• Assisting with building websites comprised of different content types (informational, profile and directories, events, etc.)
• Learning how to use the YaleSites Drupal platform
• Researching images and graphics; organizing and editing them
• Writing, editing, revising web content
• Reviewing web projects to ensure that they meet web accessibility standards
• Assisting with outreach to departmental website owners
• Assisting with developing training materials for FAS website users
• Resolving website help tickets from FAS departments

Required Skills and Abilities

This internship is suitable for students with:

• A strong work ethic who are interested in developing website content strategy and design skills
• Experience writing and/or editing content
• Knowledge of/interest in graphic design
• Interest in web accessibility and search engine optimization (SEO)

Principal Responsibilities

1.  Develops marketing campaigns for exhibitions, events, and programs, working closely with the communications director to establish priorities and plans to most effectively grow the library’s audiences on campus, in the New Haven community, and beyond. 
2.  Creates digital video, photographic, and text content for the web and social media, including the Beinecke website and its Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube channels. 
3.  Writes new content and edits existing content for the library’s website and serves as point person from the library in content migration to the new website to be launched in 2019.
4.  Leads tours and programs with New Haven school and community groups and assists in development and promotion of temporary exhibits of collections materials.
5.  Works with communications colleagues in other Yale units.
6.  Monitors trending news topics relevant to the library and develops content for digital and social media.
7.  Researches best practices in communications by peer institutions and develops action plans for enhancement of library communications programs.
8.  Supervises student interns.
