Session: Summer (May - August) Position Title: Fisheries Management Intern Hiring Manager: Robert Hanten Agency:Department of Game, Fish & Parks Location: Ft. Pierre, SD Minimum Salary: $19.09/hr
*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
Position Description: Successful candidate(s) will work both independently and as part of a team. Independent work will consist of conducting angler use surveys and Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) sampling and education efforts within the upper Missouri River fish management area. The Fisheries Management Intern will also assist with fish population surveys and ongoing research projects. Primary job duties involve field work (netting, electrofishing, angler interviews and AIS watercraft inspection/decontamination), tablet/computer use (data entry), and laboratory work (removing fish aging structures, estimating fish ages, etc.). Maintenance associated with vehicles, equipment, buildings, and grounds will be completed to help ensure smooth operation of work activities.
Qualifications: Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
