Weiss Asset Management is a Boston-based hedge fund managing multi-strategy investment portfolios with approximately $4.5 billion in assets under management, with additional offices in New York, San Francisco, and Hong Kong. Headquartered in Back Bay, Weiss brings together a lean, high-caliber team across Investment and Business functions to run a global, fast-moving investment platform.
This is a full-time Spring co-op running from January through June.
As an Investment Operations Co-op, you'll work directly with our Operations team on the processes that keep a hedge fund running day to day, helping ensure trading activity is recorded accurately across our systems and that the data behind the securities and derivatives we trade is clean and reliable. This is a hands-on seat close to the action: you'll support reconciliation of trading activity across systems, work with security and reference data, and identify opportunities to move processes from manual workflows toward more scalable, systematized solutions. As you build context, you'll prototype improvements where useful and work closely with our Software team to translate operational needs into tools and systems that can be built to last.
This opportunity is a great fit for someone who's naturally curious and comfortable diving into the details, enjoys understanding how processes and systems work end to end, and brings a data-minded and systems-oriented approach to problem-solving. You should be comfortable spotting when something doesn't look right, thinking about how a process could work better, and communicating operational context clearly to technical partners.
Support reconciliation of trading activity, balances, and fees, helping identify and resolve discrepancies
Build and maintain data models and lightweight tools that make Operations data easier to query, check, and act on, using SQL, AI tools, and other technology where useful
Identify opportunities to improve or automate operational workflows, prototype solutions where useful, and partner with Software to translate operational context into scalable, durable systems
Support security master upkeep, including creating and maintaining accurate security data across our systems
Assist with derivative operations, including data quality checks and process improvements for more complex, non-standardized trades
Own core team administrative work, including meeting documentation, internal procedure upkeep, and presenting on industry topics
Expand into additional areas of Operations and grow your scope as you build context and comfort
Able to work independently and stay organized across multiple ongoing workstreams
Careful and detail-oriented, with an eye for when something doesn't look right
Able to navigate ambiguity and figure things out along the way
Comfortable asking questions, testing assumptions, and speaking up
Systems-minded, with the ability to understand operational workflows and translate them into clear requirements for technical partners
Data-minded and comfortable using technology to work with structured information, build simple checks, and improve repeatable processes; SQL experience is a plus
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program
Compensation: Monthly compensation for this six-month co-op will range from $4,700–$5,400. Compensation within the range will reflect each candidate's relevant experience, skills, and fit for the role; not all hires should expect to start at the top of the range.
