Internship Summary


Under the general supervision of Community Health Injury Program Manager, assist with the planning and implementation of community health projects and activities in the Bear River Health District. This internship is typically scheduled for around 15-20 hours per week for 3 months starting in September.



Responsibilities & Learning Objectives


Coordinate efforts with Bear River Health Department staff, community members and the Utah Poison Control Center to provide poison prevention education to community members in order to decrease poisonings within the health district.



Intern will be responsible for attending 5 health fairs, 3 senior presentations, and 3 school/daycare presentations. This includes gathering resources and materials to share at each event or presentation. Intern will be responsible for reaching out and scheduling the health fairs, senior presentations, etc. They will also be responsible for entering documents in a state database.



Intern will also be responsible for helping with the Together For Life seatbelt campaign. The internship involves helping with ideas for advertising safety messages, design, and implementation of media campaigns.



There also may be opportunities to learn, participate and assist with the implementation of other community health programs and projects as needed and as available. 



Qualifications/Requirements


Must be a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate OR graduate student in public health, community health, health education, social work, family life, or closely related program.



Must have knowledge of public health education models, behavior change theories, and primary prevention techniques.



Must be skilled in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, internet and email use. Must have good written, verbal, and public communication skills. Spanish speaking skills are a plus. Must be able to work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work well in team situations, meet deadlines, and be able to work independently on a day-to-day basis.



Compensation


$500 paid at the completion of the internship
