The Polysomnography Technician Trainee position is part of the EEG/Sleep Lab Department and is an entry-level opportunity for an individual who is actively pursuing education to become a Polysomnographic Technologist. This is a contingent position budgeted for approximately 24 hours per two week pay period. Hours are primarily 7:00 pm– 7:30 am and occasional day shift hours as needed. This schedule may change based on department needs. This role supports sleep study services by assisting with patient preparation, monitoring, and basic sleep lab functions under the supervision of licensed and/or credentialed staff. The trainee will help ensure a safe, professional, and patient-centered experience while learning the fundamentals of sleep diagnostics and department workflow.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
Actively pursuing education/training to become a Polysomnographic Technologist
Interest in sleep medicine and diagnostic testing
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain professional and calm in a clinical setting
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately
Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn documentation systems
Demonstrates initiative, dependability, and a commitment to patient confidentiality and customer service
Key Responsibilities
Assist with patient preparation and education for sleep studies under supervision
Support the setup, cleaning, and organization of sleep lab rooms and equipment
Observe and assist with monitoring patients during sleep studies as directed
Help gather and document basic patient information according to department procedures
Maintain a safe environment and follow infection prevention and safety standards
Communicate patient needs or concerns promptly to the supervising technologist or leadership
Assist with routine department tasks including stocking supplies and maintaining equipment readiness
Participate in training, learning activities, and competency development to progress toward full technologist responsibilities
