R&D Co-Op

JOB SUMMARY

ITT Flow Technology is looking for an R&D Co-Op to assist Lab Technicians with Lab Set Up, executing, interpretation and Clean Up of Experiments.

 Assist R&D Engineers with recording test data and data organization / analysis using Microsoft Excel.

 Depending on workload and Co-op abilities, take on one R&D test directly, which includes assembling the defined set ups, running controlled experiments following established procedures, recording the data, analyzing the data, formulating conclusions and reporting out the data at the end of the summer.

 Opportunities to participate in customer consulting projects will exist.

 Pay: $25.00HR

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Safety Program Support:
   
   
   
   1. Assist in the development, review, and update of EHS programs.
   
   
   2. Ensure that safety protocols align with OSHA, EPA, and SPX FLOW standards.
   
   
   
   


2. Risk Assessment & Audits:
   
   
   
   1. Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and workplace safety audits.
   
   
   2. Assist in identifying and mitigating safety risks at various workstations and operations.
   
   
   
   


3. Safety Observations:
   
   
   
   1. Support the management of the safety observation system.
   
   
   2. Track, document, and follow up on corrective actions for reported safety issues.
   
   
   
   


4. Training & Education:
   
   
   
   1. Participate in EHS-related training initiatives for employees.
   
   
   2. Assist in developing and delivering safety-related training materials and presentations.
   
   
   
   


5. Incident Reporting & Investigation:
   
   
   
   1. Assist in the reporting and investigation of workplace incidents.
   
   
   2. Help gather data, prepare incident reports, and follow up on corrective actions.
   
   
   
   


6. Regulatory Compliance:
   
   
   
   1. Aid in maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
   
   
   2. Assist in the preparation of regulatory submissions, permits, and reports.
   
   
   
   


7. Continuous Improvement:
   
   
   
   1. Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities within EHS operations.
   
   
   2. Participate in Kaizen or other continuous improvement initiatives related to workplace safety.
   
   
   
   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Basic understanding of environmental, health, and safety principles and applicable regulations, including OSHA requirements.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and support corrective actions.


• Ability to conduct safety observations, workplace audits, and job hazard analyses.


• Basic knowledge of risk assessment and root cause analysis techniques.


• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document findings, incidents, and corrective actions.


• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate safety information clearly to employees and leadership.


• Ability to develop and assist with safety training materials, presentations, procedures, and other EHS documentation.


• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


• Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to support EHS initiatives and regulatory reporting.


• Ability to work collaboratively with EHS, Continuous Improvement, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.


• Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment.


• Interest in continuous improvement methodologies, including Kaizen and other workplace improvement activities.


• Ability to maintain professionalism and exercise good judgment when handling safety and compliance matters.


• Positive attitude with a proactive approach to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Education

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program focused on Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Analytical mindset with attention to detail.


• Basic understanding of EHS principles and regulations (e.g., OSHA).


• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Previous internship or CO-OP experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.


• Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies (e.g., JHA, FMEA).


• Familiarity with incident investigation techniques (e.g., root cause analysis).
