The Office of Early College and Career Education (ECCE) is a department that is nested within the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS) at Chicago Public Schools. ECCE strives to improve the quality of college and career education by increasing students' access to dual credit and dual enrollment opportunities in early college credit attainment, as well as to expand postsecondary enrollment and completion. In addition, ECCE strives to enhance access to STEM, CTE programming, and high-quality Work-Based Learning opportunities for students.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Office of Early College and Career Education, student participants in the ECCE Work-Based Learning Program will have the opportunity to build essential employability skills by working in a real workplace setting and applying classroom knowledge to real-world tasks. Each Student Worker will be assigned to a summer placement with an approved partner organization. The Work-Based Learning experience may provide the opportunity to work in teams, on projects, and/or rotate through various departments and/or job functions.

 

This student employee position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. Depending on the cohorts, the work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated up to 20 hours per week (up to 5 hours per day and for up to 5 days per week) for an anticipated period beginning in March 2026, and ending no later than September 2026. Scheduled work will be completed at a partner organization’s workplace.

 

The ECCE Student Worker will complete duties such as the following:

  • Participate in team meetings and/or check-ins with a site supervisor

  • Practice skills learned in the classroom in an authentic workplace environment

  • Work alongside an organization’s employees, assisting with tasks and projects when needed

  • Contribute to a product or service that is specific to a company 

  • Perform specific job duties as assigned by the partner organization 

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and others

  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with others in a team environment

  • Proficient in the use of digital technology (ex\: basic computer skills)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and peer students as an active member of a team


 

In order to qualify for this student worker position, candidates must be actively enrolled in a district-run CPS high school during the 2025-2026 school year. Students must be a rising junior or senior, including the class of 2026 graduates.
