About Duke University Hospital

The largest of the four Duke Healthhospitals with 1062 patient beds, it features comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more.


 


Location: Sleep Disorder Center – 400 Elf St, Durham, NC 27705


 


Work Hours & Schedule


The training schedule for the first 90 days is as follows:




  • Fridays: 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM




  • Saturdays: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM




  • Sundays: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM




Schedule Progression & Growth During the first 90 days, you will work closely with a preceptor who will provide hands-on technical training to help you complete patient hook-ups and understand the basics of the raw data collected during a sleep study. After 90 days, you will select three nights to work as your permanent schedule.


This program offers excellent short-term growth potential; once you become board-certified, we hope you choose to stay with Duke Health and transition into a permanent Registered Technologist role.


General Summary


Incumbents assigned to this classification will participate in an approved apprentice or trainee program established by DUHS. These programs are developed in partnership with institutions of higher learning or professional organizations. Apprentices will work under the license, registry, or certification of a qualified clinical trainer to develop competencies in their specialized area of study. Please refer to the Apprenticeship/Trainee program document for specific requirements and expectations.


Work Performed




  • Goal Alignment: Meet clearly defined goals and expectations established at the initiation of the program, per program guidelines.




  • Service Excellence: Perform all responsibilities in a manner that demonstrates service excellence toward patients, physicians, peers, and other departments.




  • Compliance: Assume responsibility for upholding the policies and procedures of the department and the organization.




  • Adaptability: Fulfill the specific nature of the apprenticeship, which will reflect the needs of the sponsoring organization, the student's learning goals, and the needs of the healthcare institution.




  • Mentorship: Receive guidance and support through regular interactions with clinical leaders to ensure success throughout the engagement.




  • Program Duration: Successfully complete the apprenticeship, which typically lasts 12 to 18 months.




Minimum Qualifications


Education




  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.




  • Prerequisite coursework (requirements vary based on the specific apprenticeship program).




Experience




  • Experience working in a hospital or health system is preferred.




  • Required experience may vary based on specific program guidelines.




Degrees, Licensures, and Certifications




  • Required licensure and/or certification may vary based on program guidelines.
