The Academic Editorial Assistant will support Prof. Deidre Hill Butler with academic writing, research organization, copyediting, conference presentations, and scholarly communication projects. This position is ideal for a student interested in academic writing, research, editing, publishing, digital organization, and graduate school preparation.Department: Sociology, Africana, Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies

Hours/Shifts Available: 6
Rate of Pay: $9.70/hr
Number of Positions available: 2
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Read and review first drafts of academic articles, book chapters, conference papers, and related scholarly materials
Provide basic copyediting support, including grammar, clarity, organization, formatting, and consistency
Assist with preparing first drafts of conference PowerPoint presentations based on Prof. Hill Butler’s research, articles, chapters, or presentation outlines
Use Canva to help design academic posters, event flyers, and visual materials
Support the organization of academic references, notes, article drafts, and research materials
Learn and apply basic citation and reference formatting in American Sociological Association Style and Chicago Style
Learn how to use RefWorks to organize academic articles, citations, and research bibliographies
Assist with proofreading, formatting, and preparing documents for workshops, conferences, or publication-related projects
Work collaboratively with Prof. Hill Butler while also completing assigned tasks independently after training
Qualifications:
Strong writing, reading, and basic copyediting skills
Familiarity with Canva for posters, flyers, or visual design
Familiarity with PowerPoint for academic or conference presentations
Interest in academic writing, research, publishing, or graduate school preparation
Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized
Willingness to learn American Sociological Association Style, Chicago Style, and RefWorks
Good communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently after the training period
