Job Description - Spencer Intern- Division of Learning and Engagment
Position Summary
The Clark Art Institute’s Division of Learning and Engagement seeks a sophomore or junior MCLA student to work as a paid intern with our Community and Family Programs team leading a weekly, after school arts program at the UNO Community Center in North Adams on Wednesdays, for children, ages 8-19. The intern will help to plan, prepare, market, and staff the program. This internship will provide skill development in program planning, experience in facilitating art-based activities in a community center setting and provide insight on how museums think about and plan for audience development.
This position is a 10 hr/week, academic year position, with an opportunity to extend into the summer and/or the 27/28 academic year.
This position requires a weekly Wednesday commitment on site at the UNO Community Center from 2:00pm-6:00pm, including setup and cleanup.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
This role will be on-site at the UNO Community Center for four hours per week, with the other six weekly hours split between on-site work at the Clark and remote work.
Work with the Manager of Community and Family Programs to develop a year-long curriculum of activities focused on the Clark collection and programs and designed to make the Clark more accessible to new audiences.
Staff weekly program on Wednesdays.
Test art-making activities and adjust plans as necessary.
Order, organize, and prepare supplies and materials for the program.
Engage warmly with participants and their families as a representative of the Clark.
Assist with postering, newsletters, and other efforts to build relationships with target community and families.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience working with children.
Experience with art-making and a variety of art materials.
Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Reliability, warmth, enthusiasm, and patience.
Education, Training, and Skills
Applicants must be current students at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).
Preference will be given to sophomores and juniors due to the possibility of a two year term.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to prepare art materials, keep up with an active group of children, and lift and move boxes of material (20 lbs).
